Cheapest mobile contract?

I want to buy my Dad a Nokia camera phone for Christmas, but with prices upwards of £100, it dawned on me that it may be cheaper to purchase a contract and then get the phone for free. With some of the cheap line rental offers I've seen, I think the total cost might work out cheaper than paying for a PAYG handset.

The contract deal doesn't interest me, as I won't be using the SIM card, I'll just give my Dad the phone and then pay the line rental by direct debit. So can anyone direct me to the cheapest line rental availalbe that comes with a free phone, and if possible the cheapest line rental without redemption?

Asking a lot aren't I! Cheers in advance.

and get it unlocked for nothing

it costs to unlock it properly. still works out a cheap option though for an up to date phone
  • Have been trying to find myself a Nokia 6230 (camera AND video phone) for the best deal. Have been with o2 for years, but they just weren't cutting the mustard on a new deal, so have dumped them for a Vodaphone deal I found with Carphone Warehouse.

    Nokia 6230 - free
200 x-net mins a month (doubled for the first 3)

Half price line rental deal for a year, works out at £15 a month (£180 for the year).

For me - by far the best deal for that phone
It's not just the receiving, it's the sharing of discounts that matter
  • Thanks for the tips...all sorted!
