Getting a Nokia 6600 Slide

Hi Folks,
I'm currently with Orange on a rolling £15 monthly contract, i use less than 100 minutes a month and about 100 texts a month. I don't use mobile internet or send MMS.
The phone i have decided i would like next is the Nokia 6600 slide however having spoken to Orange they do not have it available yet and do not have a date for it. As a result i am looking at other providers.
The only 2 networks with it at the mo are O2 and 3. The contract on offer with 02 is 75 minutes and 250 texts for £20 a month and i would have to pay £150 for the phone. On 3 i can get it free for £20 a month with 300 minutes or texts.
My two main questions are could i get a sim only monthly deal with 02 then after a month or so see if they would do me a deal on the 6600 and are 3 really as bad as some people say. I have heard mixed things about some people saying they are terrible and some people saying they are greatly improved.
Any help greatfully received.

Ive just gone to 3 from orange and its been not too bad so far but ive only had it for 3 weeks, my deal is 12 month contract with 500 x net mins and 2000 3 to 3 with unlimited texts which is more than i will ever use but im only paying £25 a month which compared to what i had with orange 300 mins and 400 texts £35 i though was great as i have a few friends and family with 3. My compromise was the phone i wanted a 5mp nokia but realised the cost to get it on a 12 month deal would have been at least £200 ish on top but i settled on the 6500 slide in black which has a 3.15 mp and no fancy gadgets to go wrong and a 4gb memory card so i have the tons of storage that i was going to get with the 5mp phones;)The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

One of the complaints i had read about with three is coverage. I have checked on one of the mast finder sites and there is a mast 100yds from my house - in fact i can see it from where i'm sat now! It will be even less of a problem when i'm at work as it is quite literally over the road from where i work!
The more i think about the deal the better it sounds to me.0 -
I too am after the 6600 slide and have one on order on with play.com at £199.99 for a sim free model. The release date keeps being put back and is currently down as 3rd November. I have spoken to the Nokia shop in London who say they hope to have stock in at the end of this week meaning the likes of Play and Cpw will have them sim free from next week. When they are available on a specific network is anyones guess but Orange are usually quite slow at getting new handsets to market as they have to brand them with their own software and stuff.0

I had looked at getting one off play.com but as you say they keep putting the date back, plus for me anyway it works out quite a bit more expensive to buy it rather than get one on contract.
I spoke to orange customer services earlier today and they still have no date on when they are getting them so i have requested my PAC code and will probably give Three a try.0 -
Finally got a 6600 slide, bought on O2 PAYG for £189.99 incl. £10.00 talk time (cheaper than any sim free deal I could find), put in the O2 contract sim and all sorted.
It really is a nice little phone to use too, anyone familiar with the layout of Nokia phones won't be disappointed. Comes preloaded with mini opera and Nokia maps and FM RDS radio. It takes decent quality pictures with the 3.2mp camera however the tap function on the main screen is a bit of a gimmick IMO.
One point worth noting is that it uses PC suite 7 which took me a while to figure out after cursing at the previous version of PC Suite I was running.
I'm really impressed with mine and it's definitely worth holding out for one of these phones if your network hasn't got them yet!!! :j0 -
Well so far so good!
Am loving the phone and my dealings so far with 3 have been fine. Got the phone from a shop no problem, number ported over OK and at home and work i have better signal than i did with orange.0 -
Was considering this phone myself, you can get it through o2 for £189 phone only, and was hoping to use it for internet occasionally. Is the functionality any good on the net? Have heard it's fairly limiting, although the full version of Opera is better than most.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

No idea what its like on the net sorry.
I got it as it was a small slim neat design rather than the big chunky N95 and other house brick sized phones!
I looked at buying it sim free from play.com for £200 but when i did the sums i couldn't get anywhere near close to the deal 3 were offering.0 -
The net use is OK, but limited. It comes bundled with Opera Mini which is easy to use and lets you view most web pages, but you can pretty much rule out looking at videos on Youtube!! I use mine mainly for Facebook, Google, Wikipedia and the Beeb and don't have any problems. If you don't get on with Opera Mini then there is another generic web browser on the phone which does the job just as well.0

Hi all.
I bought the phone last Thursday on o2 pay-as-you-go. Has anyone else encountered the following issues with their handsets:
1) When the top/up navigation key is selected as the active standby key, the bottom/down navigation key is unresponsive after the phone is unlocked (not sure if it matters, but from a locked with security code state). This is remedied by either: going back into shortcuts menu and re-confirming the active standby key settings, or by changing the shortcuts. This obviously shouldn't happen if Nokia have provided the option to choose the key(s) that use the active standby function.
2) Contact detail (specifically Birthdays) are deleted when the phone is switched off.
If anyone else has encountered these problems, it would be good to know, as then I will know it isn't just my phone, and hopefully Nokia will create a firmware update to solve these issues. If no-one else has, then I'll head back to the o2 shop and change back to Sony Ericsson.
Thanks in advance for any possible solutions/remedies.0
