BT Yahoo Broadband different packages

We are currently on BT Yahoo Broadband option 3, at £26.99 per month. After our first year, we received a 10% discount for the following year. Now we have just begun our third year and we feel we are paying a little too much. We are thinking about dropping down to option 3, which is £22.99 per month. The only difference with this one and option 3 is a drop in usage limit. If we drop down to option 2, we will have a usage limit of 6GB as opposed to 20GB. This should be more than enough for us, and also BT is pretty flexible with the limits.
We don't use ANY of the BT Yahoo software, we just use the connection and Mozilla Firefox for browsing. Even £22.99 seems a little costly, with all the cheaper options that seem to be out there. Maybe in the new year we may think about switching to a cheaper ISP altogether, but right now it's a case of if it ain't broke don't fix it etc.
My question is, how easy is it to downgrade to a lower package? In theory it should be easy, as the only main difference is a drop in the usage limit. I wanted to ask here and make sure first though. Can I do it online via the BT Yahoo site, and will it come into effect immediately?

If you can do 6GB then could you do 5GB?
You could migrate (a process to transfer ISPs) to IDNet (https://www.idnet.net) and they charge £14.99 a month for up to 2MB speed with 5GB download limit.
You need to call BT Broadband and ask for a MAC code - this is the code to do a free transfer between ISPs).0 -

Yeah, I'm pretty sure we could do 5GB - are they as flexible as BT though in going over? If I switched over to idnet would I need to go through the hassle of installing a new modem etc etc? £14.99 sounds very very nice though - I think we may just go for it if it's pretty much hassle free. Many thanks. :beer:0 -
Not sure what they are like about going over your limit but you could give them a call on 0800 0267 237 or contact@idnet.net. It's their "Occasional home use" package.
With a migration, you keep you modem and everything so you don't have to buy any more kit (nice). The new ISP just give you a new username and password to use so it seems very easy. I'm migrating to IDNet from freedom2surf and so far they have been very good. I got a letter yesterday informing me of my new account details - should be migrated on Friday.0 -

See, we are online quite a lot - what are the time limitations of the Occasional home use package?0 -

Is there any way with BT Broadband you can see the history of your usage (I know you can with my old ISP)? I think though that 5Gig would be enough for web browsing and the occasional big download (like the windows updates).0 -

There's no way to check your usage with BT, however I did a 'usage calculator' test a few weeks back on there where you basically state how much you do certain web tasks. The result came back at a little over 6GB and that was with my overly high estimates of music downloads etc. I must admit, I haven't heard of idnet before now - has anyone else got any thouhgts/opinions on them?0 -
