Price promise-Currys

Ok. I saw an item in Carphone Warehouse for £69.99 but 3 doors down the street at Currys the item was £119. I told the sales person and pointed out their price promise (match the price and 10% of the difference). The chap went to Carphone Warehouse and checked that I was right (I was). He spokke to his manager and he said he was not obliged to sell the item to me! Pointing to the price promise he relented and said ok I will do it for £69. He then dissapeared in to the the store room and came back saying that the item on display was the last one and and he did not have a box for it. So he was not allowed to sell it!!!
COP OUT/ EMPTY PROMISES I THINK. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Well they thought they could sell you one at the discounted price and a lot of stores do have a policy of not selling the display/unboxed items. Unboxed items can cause problems for them if the product is returned.
But why jump through the Dixons Stores Group con of a price promise? I would have bought it in the first place from CPW. OK CPW aren't angels but I'd rather give my money to them than DSG.The man without a signature.0 -
They can sell it to you even without a box (or at least PCW can), but the manager would really really rather not have so much discount so has made up an excuse to stop you.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

They only sell the display item if they have no more coming in. If they have more stock coming in then they will take the item off display and keep it until the new stock comes in. Saves on heavily discounting it to sell it and then having to do exactly the same with another one when that batch of stock runs out.Green and White Barmy Army!0

Not a cop out, its company policy, Currys only price match a few shops:
who do we price promise against?
Price promise applies to the lowest price offered by these retailers, whether that’s online or in-store
Argos Comet PCWorld Woolworths
B&Q Jessops Tesco John Lewis
Asda

I think the OP was implying Curry's were taking the mick and claiming it was the last item when it actually wasn't?
Surely you should get £7 off anyway if they were going to honour the price promise? Why bother messing with a retailer like that for 99p?0 -

If it wasn't the last one then the store staff were lying, and you wouldn't want to buy something from a shop where the staff lied to you would you?
If it was the last one then you wouldn't want an ex demo one, just to save a few bob, why not just buy it from CPW?0 -
why should the OP do that, they can smell that £6.99 of free ££££If it wasn't the last one then the store staff were lying, and you wouldn't want to buy something from a shop where the staff lied to you would you?

As I said it may have been the last one, but if they have new stock coming in at a later date they will not sell the last one.
They only sell ex display models when its the last one and they have no new ones coming in.Green and White Barmy Army!0 -
It is their choice whether to sell to you or not. They are under no obligation to sell something just because it is on display.
You are obviously upset as you expected to get it for £63.00.
Why not have a look on-line at getting through a cash-back site and see what price you can get there.0 -
Just clarify things. The staff at Currys did not understand their own price promise policy and I felt that the sales person was just saying the item on display was the last one and had no box was just an excuse not to honor the price promise.0
