What on earth is the point ??????????
Get you 'local' man to have a look at the job could be very simple cheap fix.
Warm Front........what a laugh.....!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Hi I am in exactly the same position.. 5 yr old 4 yr old and one due 15.11.08... very soon.. !! I have done all the complaining etc and now I am in the queue to have another installer come out to give a quote. I was also given an estimate by Iguana and I have since been told that the boiler Iguana were intending to instal was very unreliable!!
I have telephoned Warm Front this morning and they have now allocated the job to someone else .. .will let you know how I get on x0 -
Hope you both get sorted. My last property had a back boiler, which was suppoosedly condemned by an installer. I got a small local plumbing company to come give me a second opinion, (a father and son outfit who had been in the trade decades). The father admitted that many plumbers would have just recommended that the whole shabang was taken out. Many new plumbers don't knoiw where to start with old back boiler systems.
They were able to fix it the same day. I can't recall what exactly was wrong with it as it was a few years ago but I'm sure I paid less that £100 to get it fixed.
So don't despair as it may well be salvageable.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -

AHve a look in your wellow pages and find the private firm or single guy that is corgi registerd that has been trading for 15-20 years...
the reason they trade for that long is they are very good..
SOME big companies have deals with a supplier and will only work with one or two of those boilers and will try to get customers to fit those only..THE SHABBY SHABBY FOUNDER0 -
Well ...I've just had my 33 year old boiler fixed! The gas valve had packed up and is not made anymore...Fortunately I managed to source a "new old stock" via that famous auction site..
Local Corgi guy came out..Checked the valve and did a thorough service on the boiler stripped everything and cleaned etc...Checked the flue and ventilation etc.
His advice was whilst they are not the most efficient things there is so little to go wrong with them keep it as long as you can.. as since we don't have the 5K to replace it because everything will need moving we are keeping it!
The one thing I would say though is get at least one carbon monoxide detector in the house. The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0 -
:j to keep myself warm.. I think you are right.. time to bite the bullet.. I have far too many jumpers on and it is still chilly!!!! Yellow pages here I come those kids deserve better than a cold house.. thanks guys I needed a kick!!0

Just a quick up date....
I telephoned my local MP and spoke to one of his people, who in turn contacted warm front.
I have received a call from someone high up and he has arranged for another contractor to come out. I made the point of asking for an independent contractor, and explained that we would really like our boiler repaired rather than replaced if possible, as we just can't afford to pay a high excess.
My partner and i would really prefer to pay to have a top quality boiler installed once we are both working, and have the money.
will up date when i have news:)0 -
Just a little update.. I finally pulled out the Yellow Pages, had a new installer come out and still not heard from them and phoned Warm Front who said loads of people are in my position so thought well I cant continue like this... anyway in brief plumber man came out today.. found out it was a loose connection in the airing cupboard which had caused the pump to seize.. changed the pump and tightened all the wires etc and bingo.. £150.00 later and for the first time since June I have hot water, and central heating hooray.. it is really tooooo hot in here now but I am so happy.. saved myself the £813.00 excess and really cannot understand why Warmfront dont fix if they can as it suggests rather than expend on a new boiler.. I have saved some of the funds and I am proud of myself for doing.. warm as toast and just as well seeing as though it is going to be cold tomorrow :T0
