    hi guys

when the bank charges repayments first started I got a refund of £500 is paid into my account

since then charges mounting to approx £500 again have mounted last month being £175 and 11 nov was due to be £200

I messaged them through online banking and got the message back do an income and expenditure thing and ring them on this 0845 no or a +44 number for world wide customers
rang the +44 no omitting the 44 and replacing with a 0 and got through to an english customer service centre
took details on incomings and outgoings and said i had more going out than coming in and said she would freeze my account for 3 months whilst i tried to get myself in order and see if i could get charges back
this means that i have had my current account changed to a basic account but if i get it in order in january will revert back so they say if i ring up to a current account once again

as long as i have credits (ben payments ) going into my account they will still pay direct debits etc and no interest or charges will be taken from my account

my credit card which is with them and maxed out will be frozen also ie no interest for 3 months and a 3 month payment holiday
she then put me through to complaints dept who said she will send complaint through along with my financial review and i will get a response in 40 days
the fact that there is no interest and no charges going out will help me get in order a little but fingers crossed charges will not be used to pay off utility bills directly

are they allowed to do that??

if i am still in a mess apparently after the 3 months freezing of my account they will refer me to cccs and be happy to accept £1 per month if i get my account in order they will return it to a current account or so they say

temporary reprieve maybe but at least i get a charges holiday if nothing more

the charges next month would have took over half my benefits for the month

will update as i hear anything else

they were nice to speak to but i will not be fooled til i get a satisfactory response ie all my charges back

also will they pay out with the global crisis?? or will the govt or powers that be find a loophole?

  • Eek this sounds very complicated :-( and I am also wondering after all the financial difficulties we have been going through and large amounts of money the banks have needed at moment, how is the banks going to pay everyone back after the courts final result??

I am just waiting for my list of charges to come back, then i will send it off.
I have nothing to lose but it would help a lot to pay my overdraft off finally after 5 years :-( but when i phoned up for the charges list, they actually gave me a £50 refund of this months charges which i complained about... If they can pay £50 back so easily then they obviously dont need the charge money as much as they make out.

I think I have been going over my over draft for 5 years as i am always in debt to bank due to charges which come out the account mid month :-(

    Hi Guys

Seem to be a lot of confusion about hsbc and refunding charges. I have just received £440 charges back from them out of my total claim of £1000 this does not affect the rest of my claim.
Basically I put all the paperwork in 7 mths ago and was made redundant in Jan. I rang hsbc and after about 20 attempts got through to a guy from the financial hardship team. He did an income and expenditure check which revealed a shortfall between my income(jobseekers) and essential expenditure( rent, utilities, food, clothing, car, petrol etc) of £440. He agreed to pay me this out of my claim because they review it month by month and would do the same again if my circumstances have not changed in the next month. I had to fax proof that I was claiming jobseekers then just sign the form he sent and return it. This all took about 5 days and the money was in my account.
My advice dont be fobbed off speak to someone from the financial hardship team direct the people who can actually make the decision nobody else. Remember they consider £25 minimum for food for single guy, so up the amount you pay out in rent, utilities etc etc so you have little left for food. This shows your really struggling and you should get success. Anyone with questions post em here and i'll tell you what I know
    good luck !!

Hey Mark, Iv had exactly the same thing with hsbc today, they took all my income and outgoings into consideration and have offered me £330 for the next 2 months, then they will review it again...its not gonna get me out of debt, but its definatly a start. Everyone else battling with hsbc, stick with it! x

  • Hi all & thank you,

Just wanted to say after reading this thread, I've just sent my first e-mail to HSBC to ask for a total of charges over the last 6 years.

I know it'll be a while but thought I'd better start somewhere.

    Hey ells888
thats interesting because they didnt do that for me they said they would only review it month by month, I was on the phone to them yesterday trying to get in touch with the guy I spoke to originally but couldnt. He is supposed to be ringing me back but I wont hold my breath, may just have to wait till 18th then its a month

You need to go into your branch and ask for all your statements for the last 6yrs then highlight all your charges, photo copy them and post them off. I dont think they will respond to an email.

Sorry they dont have a direct number but if you call this one 0800 055 6017 ask for the financial hardship dept, you will then speak to someone but this will not be the person that can actually deal with it. They will probably try and fob you off ask to speak to someone that can actually deal with your claim.
