TalkTalk 3 months free Talk3 ending

I've got the 3 months of free Talk3 on my account but it is due to end in about 3 weeks.
Do they extend this plan at all or do I have to leave them now? I would like to have these free calls extended but it isn't worth the £7.49 fee as I don't make too many calls in the daytime, although I am making more now that we have this plan.
Are there any providers offering all day calls for no monthly fee or is that too much to ask? Are there are any tactics for getting Talk Talk to extend this or give me a different offer if I threaten to leave?

Your having a Giraffe are you not? What would be in it for them. :snow_grin0 -
lol, just phone them up and say you're considering leaving - I got a year's evening and weekend calls thrown at me - I doubt they'd give you Talk3 for a year but if you really want to try, there isn't anything to lose I suppose!!
They will probably just give you the evening and weekend free for a year. Let us know how it goes! That, is an excellent question...0 -

Hi,
I have just threatened to leave talk talk and they offered me, after much haggling, 3 months free, talk 3. If I took the land line deal!!
Is this good?
I suppose I could cancel in 3 months but as my best friend is also talk talk and also my big sister, It seemed quite good. Also did you know they charge an extra 50p a month for 1571, so it is the same price as BT!!!!
(cheeky! eh!!)

But it's your decision.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
If you do decide you are not staying with talk talk on the free deal they want 14 days notice. I had this deal too and went back to BT, using BT pretty much only for line rental and dialing 18866 for calls (3p connection fee and no charge per minute for landline calls, cheap mobile and international too). 18866 isn't the cheapest but its close to it - there is a link on the main MSE site to cheapest phone calls and plenty discussion on it elsewhere on these forums.
BT offered me a free paper shredder for going back (worth a tenner) so if you do go back to BT ask them about it.
there are others out there offering cheaper line rental but not sure if you can use all the cheap diallers on them.
Worth a look at the telephone info on this site before you decide to stick with talktalk though.0 -
Hi There, I've decided to stay with them, as they offered me 3 months free and then the next 9 months at 7.99. for Talk 3.
I think this is ok as i dont really want to move as my friend (who I talk to loads!!! and my sister is on TT too.) I would have had to go back to Bt and cancel Direct Debits etc and then re-join after 14 days, for to get the 6 months free + £7.99 for the remaining 6 months, offer. ,The rate for existing customers is £9.99 per month.
To my reconning, I will be saving a total of 3 months x £7.99= £23.97 and 9 months x £2( difference between 7.99 and 9.99) =£18 Grand total of £41.97.
Compared to BT wanting £15.00 a month x 12 months = £180 Option 3
I would still only be paying £71.91 for talk talk 3 for 12 months. Should there be a problem with the land line, I was tassured I could easily get out of the 3 month contract!!

So you will actually be paying approx approx 5.99p a month for your 01/02 calls for a year whether you use them or not. If you used 1899 for your peak calls and Primus Saver 2 Free Evening and Weekend calls to 01/02, you would probaly have been better off.£5.99p is equilavent to 200 calls a month on 1899.Bearing in mind that you would only make peak calls on 1899.Would you be making approx 7 peak calls a day.
In addition you have lost all the benefits of keeping your landline with BT. :rudolf:0 -
I am sorry to be a bit ignorant on this, but what are 01/02calls?
Can you remind me what are the benefits of keeping my landline with BT?
As we have in our household teenagers who would not remember or consider any costs incurred for mum and dad, I dont think we would all remember to dial prefixes or special numbers before the number dialled.
Thanks for your input.0 -
01/02 calls are calls to STD codes which start with 01 or 02. Those are 'geographical numbers' - those where the called location can be identified by the first few digits of the code (e.g. 01255 = Clacton-on-Sea) - as opposed to NGNs (Non-Geographical Numbers) - those where the called location is not defined by the code and they could terminate anywhere (e.g. 07905, 0800, 0870 etc.).
The benefit of leaving your line rental with BT is that they are the only firm which is required by its licence to allow subscribers access to CPS (Carrier PreSelect) providers and other firms (e.g. 1899, 18185) offering cheap calls. BT also offer free Call Display - other firms charge for that.
If you have 'difficult' kids, your best bet would be to sign up for CPS with Primus Saver 2 and get free evening and weekend calls to UK 01/02 numbers and with 1899 to get calls to UK 01/02 numbers for 3p connection and 0p/minute weekday daytime and to 18185 for 4p connection and 5p/minute calls to UK mobiles during the week (2p/minute at weekends).
Then, it'd be a question of imposing your rules*. My daughter allows her kids to make whatever 01/02 calls they like and only makes them pay from their pocket money if they forget to use the appropriate cheap route (no prefix for 01/02 calls evenings and weekends, 1899 prefix for 01/02 calls weekday daytime, 18185 for calls to mobiles at all times).
* An alternative would be to buy an Orchid dialler (see the 'Sticky' at the top of the board) but, if you have more than one telephone socket in use, you'd need more than one.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Their are quite a few benefits in leaving your line rental with BT. A couple more are
1.If your phone goes wrong you only have to involve BT.If you use another supplier you have to tell them ,they then have to tell BT if appropriate.Delay in fixing your line!
2.If you only CPS your calls .You can still avail yourself of cheaper 0845/0870 offpeak calls by using BT 1280 override access code.0
