HSBC closed my account?

  • Was just thinking the same thing.

However it did make me think about how I manage our accounts as I have a few online savings accounts as well as our current account that I use as monthly "pots" for different things. Sounds like I am ok though re moving money around in this way as all the same bank and name.

Thousands and thousands of people do this. Don't worry about it. The OP (if he's not making it up) is probably suspected of money laundering because he is receiving very large sums of cash from abroad, in cash, and then apparently sending money back to another account, also abroad. Moving money from one account to another of your own will not get you in any trouble, don't worry!

You've mentioned this elsewhere peediedj. You must have gone overdrawn at some point to be in a minus figure - so thus it is your fault. Or did they just randomly take money out of your account? You're getting charged because you're overdrawn. They will not close your account while it is overdrawn. Go into the bank, pay off the money you owe, and voila account closed.
nope your wrong,i have never used the account, never payed in money nor have i ever taken money out of it,i opened the account,i didnt realsie you got charged a mnothly fee for having the account, and i was also told once it was open 3 mnoths they would pay £50 inot it(which would cover overdrawn amount) ,what gets me is every time i e-mail or write a letter asking to sort it out they send me a letter saying there looking into it,but nothing is ever done,.why dont they write saying come to some sort of agreement then they,ll close it,let me think why because theyre making easy money by ignroing the problem or so they think

You signed up for a monthly-fee account (which you didn't read up on properly) for the sole purpose of extricating money from HSBC, you didn't bother to put money in to cover the fee, you went overdrawn and they charged you, as per the terms and conditions which I'm guessing you didn't read. Your, bloody, fault. I fail to see how HSBC is in any way culpable here, and they won't let you close the account because it's overdrawn. You couldn't even complain that you were missold because you specifically applied for HSBC Plus. Pay the OD and fees off and move on.

Because Plus comes with a 12 month contract, which you signed up to, and a two week cooling off period, which I imagine you were just over.

  • If you can claim, hand on heart, that you tried to cancel within 14 days (not working days) of your application (not of the account being opened), then yes, you have a case. Otherwise, I can just see a litany of things that are entirely your doing.

Ohhhhh right. So you opened an account you never intended on using purely to get £50 (cashback offer from elsewhere?) and now are whinging because you've not bothered to read the terms and conditions of the account?

It comes with a 12 month contract to stop people signing up for one month to get say free holiday insurance or overseas withdrawals, and then closing the account. Or to stop them signing up to grab a cashback offer when they have no intention of using the account.

I don't work for HSBC anymore, I don't hold any particular love of them (besides having my own account there) ... and I still think your whining is stupid.
