Hi Folks,
Just wanted to make you aware that there is a non repayable grant called the "Community Care Grant" which some who are struggling to meet financial costs my be able to get.
Its a bit like The Crisis Loan or The Budgeting Loan but it is like I say, non-repayable.
You need to be on Income Support, Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance, or any type of Pension Credit in order to claim.
I have claimed this once before when needing a new orthopaedic bed prior to having further hip operations.
You usually hear within a week of sending your forms back if your claim has been successful or not.
You are able to re-apply for another grant anytime you need one as long as it is 6 months since your last claim and I believe i'm right in saying you cannot ask for a grant for the same item in another claim.
Information can be found HERE
download, print off claim form HERE
I claimed due to on going hip operations etc
My sister managed to be granted help when she left an abusive husband and needed to set up a new home for herself and her 3 children
It has also helped a friend of mine whose eldest son has ADHD to pay for dining tables and chairs, and bed for her son and bedding.
I really hope this may be of help to some of you

They're great, I've just had one for an orthopedic mattress. I'm a bit concerned that you can't get another one for the same item, as when it wears out I'll need another. I guess I'd better start saving for the next one in a few years time!Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

I've recently received a community care grant for something I applied for a few years ago. I explained it now needed replacing and I received the full amount I asked for, so when the time comes, just be honest with them and say it's because you need a replacement.
I too, had heard you couldn't apply for the same thing twice, but I think that does depend on the circumstances and why you are asking again.
Thanks for posting up the info to begin with POLO as it may help someone who wasn't sure of the criteria for applying.

my partner applied for a community care grant a couple of months ago for a bed because we have no money and i currently sleep on a very uncomfortable matress which is near enough on floor (bed is very old and very low) so my partner claimed for help with getting a new bed that is higher as he has to lift me on and off the bed and he is currently really hurting his back and also the mattress is currently becoming very uncomfortable to me and i can not sleep due to the discomfort.
so form was sent - 2 weeks later they said not entitled to anything. (i cant get any moeny from crisis loan as i owe them already)
i dont understand y was refused as i fort thats wot ccg was for
any sugestions?

May I suggest you both appeal against their decision...
The funds are limited per district council area I believe, presumably, April, being the start of the new tax year is when the limits are set as to what they can dish out.
Several people who I have talked with on this subject had their claims declined initially, 2 people had less than half they asked for granted and still appealed for the full amount... each appeal was successful!!!!
It seems to me they like to see just how bad you need it, thus appealing may do the trick as they no you aren't pulling a fast one and you truly do need the extra financial help.
hope this helps, let us know how you both get on.Ple'ma an bysva?

If you have no luck with the grant, try freecycle.0 -
I read an article this week that suggeted that the govt is considering privatising grants and social fund loans and budgeting loans, theres a 3 week consultation ongoing atm, with a suggestion that credit unions could become involved in the delivery of these grants/loans0
