I really couldn't tell you as the Archos is still sealed which makes it easier to sell on Ebay but the NHJ-MPM202 is probably around the same size from what I can see but a little chunkier .. I can't see this being any problem though .. Im just copying over a .avi film to see the quality . but the stuff I recorded off tv was suberb .. and it has its own tv tuner built into the cradle which I don't think the Archos has .. battery life is around 3/4 hours for video so 2 films.
The other thing is the Archos is only USB 1.1 where this is 2.00 -
Another thing, the Av7000 .. the screen resolution is terrible.
They did a group test on the gadget show last week and mentioned this .. I also saw one in the airport a few weeks ago and it was like looking at an old vhs film.0 -
Review here http://www.datamind.co.uk/Merchant/pmp_harddisk_Aug_Sept04.htm#nhjmpm
The AV560 from Dixons has a state of the art 4inch 262K colour screen with extremely good black level (like Sony X Black), compare it to the NHJ.
Keep in mind Archos has decent software updates, visit http://www.nhjapan.com and try to find any English support.0 -

Can you record off Sky and Freeview with the NHJ-MPM202?
Also, re the battery, is it removable and do you know how much replacements would be?
Thanks0 -

The AV560 is USB2 and has both the normal Client port to connect to the computer and another Host USB port for connection to card reader/camera.0 -
The Archos AV560 supports USB 2.0 and is backwards compatible with 1.1.0

Fair enough it's cheap, and the Archos is more expensive, but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for.0

On paper, the MPM is the ultimate device, and it had everything to put the Archos to shame (except for the AV-500) and make the other Microsoft PMCs blush. But a small error by NHJ spoils everything, the screen is really bad and I urge NHJ to rectify this error as soon as possible, as they will get a serious beating when they put the device on the US market like this. You do get an enormous amount of kit for this price, because it's almost 100 Euros cheaper than the first PMCs by Samsung and Creative (which are lower specs).

Ah well, I only saw the USB 1.1 on the box .. :-)
As for firmware updates, Im using it to record off the tv and dvd player which is all I want and I don't need a firmware update to do that .. it already does it.
I'm more than happy with it for the price0
