can,t connect computer to internet

hello
we were given a computer old one which was working on the internet.
but when i tried it by connecting it to our exsting connection it doesn,t work.the previous owner was with freeserve.do we need to connect it with our current suppy virgin.i put in modem disk followed instuctions but got to end and modem can,t connect to computer.as you can probably tell i know
little about computers.thanks

It is probably set up to connect to freeserve and you will have to put in the settings for virgin. Open internet explorer, click on tools, then internet options, then connections and click on setup.0
