  • kinda !!!!!!, got a boots eyetest, then was given a leaflet with my £20 receipt saying I could get it half price if I had signed up to the boots health care plan

Anyway I used that prescription to buy from glasses direct. the glasses took ages to arrive, and they broke within one week and I lost the lense at work. I emailed them, no email back. Thanks very much glasses direct, so much for your 14 money money back offer, all I wanted was a new lense to replace the one I lost.

The glasses gave me a headache too, the PD thing I measured myself and find it is around 63mm, which is the average PD glasses direct use and the ones used in my glasses.

I think all this saving money stuff is a pain in the butt, i've lost money doing this, I think I'm going to have to go into a shop and spend £100 more pounds on a pair that actually works

  • Hi

I have found a website (http://www.spexfactory.co.uk) that sells a wide range of prescription glasses from £15 with lenses! They also supply well known brands such as Morgan, Joop and jaguar which start from £40.

    Hope This Helps!
  • Hope someone can help...

    Are "Glassescrafter" any good?

I've seen quite a nice pair of glasses on their website, but not sure if I should buy from them.

    Thanks.

    cheers

Shame they don't have a physical address and a telephone number showing on their site, that is a NO NO for me then.

When considering purchasing varifocals, bear in mind that there are dozens of different designs...
Some modern designs can easily cost around the £300 mark or over but with some shopping around, you will be able to find varifocals for around the £50-£60 mark.... for a large amount of people who maybe only use them for occasional reading/computer use then these lower priced options are perfectly viable.
Are these lower priced options from independent opticians, as I have been quoted over £200 by Specsavers and more than double that by D&A? These prices are for varifocals with thinner lenses because of my strong prescription.
Thanks for the helpful advice you have been dispensing!

Hi! Unfortunately you can expect to pay a fair amount more for varifocals in thinner materials. I would ensure they are providing ALL the options available. Specsavers is probably your best bet. From the top of my head i'm sure that they can offer hi index (thinner lenses) for less than the £200 mark but this would be for the first "level" of thinning and a basic design. They may be quoting for a higher level of thinning maybe due to your prescription.

Hi, I took an eye test a few weeks ago. I know which glasses and lenses I want and am prepared to spend the £ 180 online. ciliaryblue sounds good. (Instore price of Frames and lenses is at least double than my online choices)
I phoned the opticians (20-20) to get my pd but they would give it to me only if I buy glasses. I would take a new eye test just to get the pd measured by a professional. Does anyone knows a place in London where they will just measure my pd ? I am prepared to pay something. How do opticians measure the pd, just with a manual ruler or with some expensive opticians equipment ?

If you check out the www.goggles4u.com or www.giarre.com website you can follow the instructions to measure your PD it is easier if you get someone to do it for you. I was very nervous buying specs online for the first time but followed the instructions and was delighted with them. To get the correct size I went into Specsavers tried a couple of pairs similar to the ones I wanted to order and checked with the assistant that they fitted correctly and noted the frame measurements which are stamped inside one of the arms.

I want to now buy a pair of frameless and would be interested to know if the www.goggles4u ones are similar quality to the £75 Specsaver ones.

Thanks Chick Chick, i purchased a pair of glasses from www.wantglasses.co.uk and their cusotmer service team contacted me within about 2 minutes. So much for specsavers all they did was rip me off. The service and the price from wantglasses.co.uk was much better. Thanks :rotfl:
