Thanks. Saved in the phone book.0

Many thanks OP - looks fantastic. BUT, I've been looking on the site - all seems a bit confusing with regard to some of the calls. Do I need to worry about any of that if I'm just dialling an 0800 number. Plus, do I get free 0870 etc numbers?
There is something on there about ringing an 0870 number and leaving your phone on for 120 mins to top up your credit, seems a little odd..0 -
Do be very careful with any companies like this who provide an access number, I work in the collections department for one of the mobile networks, and I regularly speak to people who have used one or more of these services thinking that the minutes would come out of their inclusive minutes. The problem is that just because it looks like a landline number doesn't mean it is one or that it gets charged as one, as rather than being a standard landline number it is actually an access number and as such will be charged for. The same applies for those that say you can use them for free international calls and things like that. Sometimes you may even seem to get free calls for a brief period, but then the number shows as being an access number and will then start to be charged for. Lots of people run up huge bills this way without even realising and then have trouble paying them, so do please be careful!*** Matched betting: £422.69 *** :T0

Their is nowt dodgy about this service. Its a normal geographical phone number which is being used as an access number for calling 0800/0808 Freephone Numbers. I use it on O2 and Orange and it comes out of my inclusive minutes. It saves me paying exorbitant rates to call these numbers.

Nonsense.
It does exactly the same thing as the Pre-Dial Geographic Access Numbers 02002220700 or 02002220900 which are regularly mentioned on this site as an alternative to paying mobile companies expensive charges to call so called Freephone Numbers.
I and many others have used both the 0200 and 01635 service,s a out of mobile inclusive minutes, and the calls were treated as inclusive, and we were not charged any extra to do so.0 -
I just thought that by doing this it may be possible for them to listen in on your calls.
For example , your call them -> They transfer you through -> The number you wanted to call
So , i'm not sure but when they transfer the call that gives them the opportunity to listen to in. Its like a conference call where you can all speak to each other.
But in this instance they stay silent , they could be recording???
This is very possible and that is why i will not be using stuff like this.
NOTE: This is just MY opinion , This does NOT mean that they are recording anything. So my opinion should not deter you from using the service as this is not proven , i am just pointing out that it is possible.
You dial the access number a recorded announcement then asks you to enter the number you wish to reach , your call is then placed over their preferred network at their cheaper rates, no one is listening in,its all done automatically.
Its no different to the access numbers that Martin MSE recommends you use in the UK and Intl Callchecker,s. Except that instead of using a 0844/0871 access number you use a 01/02/03 geographical one.
Its not uncommon for suppliers to offer proper 01/02/3 access numbers MSE also recommends that members also use 18185,your see they use one here. http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php0 -
MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.:hello:0 -
Just found this one in case it's useful to anyone, not spotted elsewhere. It's for dialing 0800's using your free inclusive minutes from a mobile. Often the mobile companies won't let you use your minutes for this type of call.
http://www.0800buster.co.uk/
You dial a normal national number (01212 84 0800) from your mobile, then dial the 0800 at the prompt. You only pay your usual rate for the first national number, which if you get inclusive minutes is free. Apparently they pay for it because they get a cut of revenue from the 0800 that you subsequently dial.
Also had a cunning idea: tested it in combination with the 0800 118 3733 free directory enquiries number that Martin recommends. Worked for me.
I guess one thing to watch is your mobile company might quietly start charging for it without telling you. So wouldn't use it excessively until you have seen how it appears on your bill just in case. Also no obvious contact details on the site so not sure who's running it. Domain name whois records show the domain name is registered to a guy called Darrell Taylor. No company details that I could find. The site was set up only a few days ago by the look of it.

A couple of suppliers already offer this type of service, and have been doing so for some time.

One of which has a seperate geographical number that points directly to the Freephone DQ 0800100100 number.
