Broadband Internet

Hi everyone,

Had a discussion with my ex-wife last night about this miracle of the modern age. She has yet to be convinced of the merits of the internet, despite having two children ( 14 and 10 ) and she obviously worries about what can be viewed via the websites.

Her main obstacle is the cost. I pay £17 a month for my Telewest connection (2 mg broadband) and she is not the richest in the world. I said to her that she could save the monthly fee easily by being savvy with her purchasing.

Next year I am going to challenge her. I bet that I can save enough money by internet purchasing to make it effectively free. She doesn't think I can do it. I got into practise this morning by buying two Xmas presents, an album and DVD from Play.com ( after using Kelkoo ) and saving at least £3/£4 total on the shop prices.

Let battle commence.

Using the internet for shopping, I save the £25 I pay for telewest 4mb each month.

Its also cheaper to get Asda to deliver than to get a taxi from their local store, and with the discount codes I even get free delivery.(£10 or so each month)

I use the internet for my phone through Skype, saving about £20 per month in calls+ £10 line rental.

Ebay is also a great money saving measure, probably about £5-10 per month on average.

Signing up for gas and electric online often gives an extra discount, on top of the savings by finding the cheapest companies using comparison sites.

And also, the internet would be good for the kids homework .
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

The cheapest dial up is Tiscali Daytime £5 a month, not evenings not weekends, otherwise £8 a month. Been on it two years now , still get the same bargains as someone on Broadband.Add on free Tiscali accelerator, you have a very reasonable service. Even cheaper is the library, free one hour a day, broadband.
