Hi all, I have bagged my self an ex display quilted throw from Homebase for £10, on returning home I am dismayed to discover that it is dry clean only:o... My question is does anyone on here recognise this throw and have they washed it successfully themselves in the washing machine:confused: if so was it just on a cool wash and did they use a delicate spin?? Many thanks

if you have a drier you can buy sachets that 'dryclean' in your own drier

Hiya- what is it made of as that will determine whether you wash/dry clean it. I am rather sceptical about many washing labels as some are very misleading. My son`s trousers were supposed to be dry clean only but you could tumble dry them:confused: I washed them and they were absolutely fine. They were sale trousers and I thought the cost of dry cleaning them would cost more than the trousers!

the fabric is the same as the duvet set was made from and this washes in the washing machine as usual so I can only assume it has something to do with the filling,
    100% polyester for front
50% polyester 50% cotton for reverse
    the filling isn't listed
maybe its in case the sequins fall off or the filling moves about

What about if you were to wash it within a duvet cover on delicates on 3o degree setting?

Are the sequins stitched on, or stuck on?

Also is there stitching right through holding the filling in place?

Yes the stitching holding the filling in place and sequins all sewn down, there are sequins on the duvet set as well!
I am thinking I will try to wash on a 30 with a quick wash and hold my breath

Are you wanting to wash it because it was marked and is ex display, I would pre-treat any marks and then wash on your coldest setting.

  • I have a monsoon throw like the one in the picture and it's made of the same fabrics you state and has sequins and beads on it,only difference is it's blue.
It's a double bed size and although it states dry clean only,I've had it in the wash several times with no problems.
What I do is fold it neatly with the insides in(to avoid any damage to sequins, beads ect) and put in a large net washbag or a pillowcase which you can use tacking stitches or safety pin together to seal it.Make sure it fits snug in the bag as then it can't unfold in the wash and just wash on low setting, line dry and bobs your uncle.
I find because I've had mine folded like this that when it's dry it usually does'nt even need ironing, which is a bonus as it's rather a large item to have to do.
  • Hi, I have a giant cushion from Dunelm (sort of faux suede) and I washed it in the machine. The outer material is just fine but the filling is quite clumpy now when it was smooth before. That might be what they mean. I think it will be more to do with getting it soaked to be honest. I'd favour the dry clean sachets if it was me.
