FTSE down 5.44% on the day, so far
I think the "uh oh, just how bad are things anwyay?" factor is outweighing the "woo hoo, cheap cash to pump up investors" effect.
exactly! The window of stability has been well and truly smashed with the big rate cut. The confirmation by the BOE that were are completely up the creek is far more powerfull than borrowing being a few quid cheaper...
the major news sources are already going on about the fact that even a cut of this size is unlikely to fix anythin and much bigger is needed.0 -
I will stick, we have already seen the bottom.

I think the bottom was 3665.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

True, but when markets panic they tend to overdo it on the downside, hopefully they will go away and look at the positives. The problem is you also got all the external influences eg the Dow. Amazing that sterling has gained on the Euro someone must see something positive.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. I think the Euro is due a hammering - it really has lead a charmed life so far but there are some nasty fundamentals which so far haven't been reflected in the trading rate.
After it takes a fall, might be a good time to shift some sterling across and benefit from higher IRs in a currency that's at least as stable (not really praise for the Euro).--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -

I don't think trading on the UK Stock Markets has been influenced in a major way by the rate cut today. The cut will take months to filter into the real economy, and the markets will start to ponder that later, currently they have far more pressing matters.
