It's a great example of why you don't give people what they want. The general public wanted money, that banks gave it to them and now the whole shebang is going to hell in a handcart.

Democracy isn't always a good thing - the requirement of government to be popular means they're not able to take a tough line on issues when necessary.

Interesting to see that more people blame the politicians than the bankers. I thought we'd be walking it by now.

Big thanks to the people that blame me. Gah!

    It's more complicated than that
Well it does seem that it helps the rich become wealthier at the expense of the poor who are struggling through life up to their neck in debt.
In answer to your question, I would have to say yes. I know that it is an impossible scenario as without it, economic growth would be non-existant! On the flip side, it would mean that global debt would not have spiralled out of control and the third world would not be so poor?
My knowledge on the subject and concept is minimal, but it is quite fascinating and something that I would love to explore in more depth.

Interesting that more people vote for Generali than the media.

I assume you include Martin Lewis in 'the media' but I would have had him down as a cause on his own if I'd done the pole. ;)

I am truly astonished that more people have not understood what a fundamental role the credit rating agencies had in all this.

What do the credit agencies have to do with it? They just report a factual record of people's credit situation. It's the banks that chose to lend on poor records.

Ahem, who gave AAA ratings to worthless CDOs?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Oooh great. What do I win?

Do I have to give it back if I reveal that it's the title of a book?

I must be more influential than I thought!
