Don't attempt to transfer it. They will consider it a change by you, and just cancel the original flight and only refund you a portion of the taxes.

Book the Alicante flight on its own, and separately await their full refund for the Valencia flight.

As this has just been announced you ought to give them time to digest it!
To be fair THEY announced it so THEY should have let THEIR staff know what THEY were going to do with customers already booked on these flights. If Valencia Airport had kicked them out then I would agree with your statement. As it stands they ought to deal with me straight away and curteously when I call about what THEY have announced.
They have announced they will refund everyone, so why not get another booking straightaway, as there is bound to be pressure on that route, leading to price increases (just as there was just after the xl collapse on the routes they were operating)

If I had £200 spare cashflow I would gladly do this. It looks like my lack of cash is going to cost me again. Although again if they have announced this why don't their staff know and why the fob off with an email will come instead of going ahh yes you are one of the affected lets help you!

We are talking Ryanair here, not Fortnum and Mason!

They have announced what they are doing:
Passengers due to travel on all other cancelled Valencia based services, will receive a full refund from Ryanair.
You are better off than were the customers of xl when their flights got cancelled!

"You gotta cheap flight! What more do you want? Service! pah, forget it"

They are only interested in additional revenue now, not tomorrow.

How difficult/expensive would it be to get home from Stansted?

There is a massive difference in the air fare.

    Alicante to ema = £92

    Valencia to Stanstead = £350

don't blame the staff, i expect they heard it on the news like the rest of us did, i know of another route thats was closed and the staff hadnt a clue about anything happening and only discovered something was not right because travellers couldnt book flights over the coming months and kept asking why.

my advice is book alternative routes now, easyjet have stopped valencia after next week too from stansted, book now and get em while you can

ryanair sort it out, phone calls...nah you do it and quick

I wasn't blaming the staff for not knowing, that lies squarely with management/director/owner types. However the abrubtness and rudeness I received as well as being hung up on aren't acceptable from anybody regardless of company/cheapness etc and that was a person not the company.

I am negotiating on alternate routes as I don't have any funds available to book with so got to persuade someone that I am going to get the refund so they will pay and I pay them when the refund goes through!

Thanks all for the advice on this showing it my OH has made her realise it might be the best course of action too!

  • Just announced last week that Ryanair are in dispute with AirBP at Prestwick claiming that their fuel costs have risen and they are questioning the monopoly of the re-fuelling agents AirBP. I know that Prestwick is quite a small airport in Scotland and only has one interested re-fuellier, but watch this space !! Ryanair is not a happy airline and although they are obvouisly making a profit it is not enough to meet the increased fuel costs that we all have to make ourselves

The Valencia closure has been on the cards for a while now and was even being predicted in news articles on Ryanairs website. It shouldn't have come as a surprise especially not to their own staff. The Prestwick fuel issue is also happening at Belfast City Airport.

or are they playing a game to get a good deal at that new airport http://www.aerocas.com/localizacion.php?idioma=uk ?

My thoughts exactly though according to local newspapers the only airline to signup for the new airport is Air Nostrum.
