can you get a reoccurring virus in your router?
I have a problem that will just not go away.
Its stopping me getting onto Hotukdeals. Picasa web albums and misdirected searches to another search engine time and time again.
I have run spybot. it tells me I have Zlob dns changer 2 entries. I get rid of it still cannot get to sites. Run spybot again there is Zlob again.
Downloaded spyware sweeper finds some entries delete still cannot get to sites.
Download spyware docter, finds a few entries delete them still cannot get onto site.
Now have A-Squared antimalware on a 30 trial that found some entries to. Deleted these. Still cannot get on site.
I uninstalled the spywares after use so there was only one running.
So if its in the router what do I do next.
Thanks for your help!

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Have you tried Spybot and Malwarebytes in SAFE mode as Junior said?
If so, have you tried IMMUNISE with spybot THEN try scanning with them both in safe mode again
What firewall do you use? If its the inbuilt microsoft one, you NEED a decent third party one
Comodo, Sunbelt and Zonealarm are the main freebies
Which anti virus do you use?

I've just had the Zlob Trojan. There are chuffing hundreds of versions of it. My boy accidentally got it when trying to do some translations on-line.

The free ones don't get rid of it, nor did the paid one I use at work.

A clean re-install is your best bet
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

I have comodo firewall. use avast virus checker. I havetried Juniors in safe mode but not spybot.

So I will now try spybot again. Can I just disable Malwarebytes, or must I unistal whilst installing spybot.

That did not work. So if I do a clean install, can I put my pictures on a disc along with some emails and some files, and then download them later.

  • Click here to download HijackThis.
    Save HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
Double click on the HJTInstall.exe icon to start the program.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis
After the final dialogue box it will launch HijackThis.

Click on the scan button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Save the log, and post me it in your next reply.

  • I'm not seeing a fat lot wrong with your log - is spybot give you a file path or a file name that is infected?

    Also please try the following;
Please disable Spybot S&D’s TeaTimer protection, because it is known to interfere with our fixes.
You can enable it again after you're clean.
Open Spybot and click on 'Mode' then click 'Advanced Mode'.
Click on 'Tools' in bottom left hand corner.
Click on the 'System Startup' icon.
Uncheck 'Teatimer' box and/or uncheck 'Resident'.
    Click the 'Allow Change' box.
Then, check next to the computer clock to see if the icon for Spybot is still there.
If it is, right click it and choose 'exit Spybot-S&D Resident'.

Then start up Malwarebytes - Update it and then run a full scan and post back the log here.
  • I recently had the DNS changer and it wasn't a very nice experience.

If I remember correctly, I downloaded spybot and ran it first normally in windows (make sure you turn system restore off before you do it - this will delete your previous restore points). Then restart the computer in safe mode with networking. Run spybot again and fix any problems. To finish I used the malware scanner at www.trend.com and fixed any problems it came up with - this will take a while but it's worth it...

Restart the computer and turn system restore on again. Then you should go into the network settings (start > settings> network connections > [your connection]). Select Properties on the General tab and do the same on the window that opens after selecting the Internet Protocol in the list. In the window that opens, make sure both 'Obtain an IP...' and 'Obtain a DNS...' are both selected to be done automatically. The malware hijacks your DNS settings so it is likely this would be preselected to a number of their choice.

Once you have done this you should be fine, but run spybot once more to make sure...

    Hope this helps.

Edit: If your hijack log is good you might have got rid of it yourself. However, the DNS setting has most likely not been addressed. If that is the case, you will only have to make sure you obtain it automatically.
