Well, first, I would normally avoid a malaria area as there are so many other places to go where you don't need to take precautions. Plus, although my hotel was 4-star (Atlantic Beach), the food was pitiful. Also, the excursions were way over-priced considering the general economy and wage levels etc. Felt I was being ripped off and the Gambians who were actually running the trips were probably getting a tiny fraction of what I had paid to the operator. I wouldn't have minded so much if I'd thought they were getting a fair proportion.0 -

I know what you mean by Gambians not getting much out of the money you've paid to the operator, but I think you find that in quite a few countries.
Also I have to say I don't mind taking malaria tablets as I wanted to see something different and if that is what comes with it, then you have to do it.. Where do you normaly go?0 -

A couple of years ago, I was looking to book my usual winter week in Egypt by the Red Sea and saw the Gambia trip and thought it would be a change. I didn't know it was a malaria area and, worse, one of those resistant to the cheaper chloroquine(?) tablets and you need to buy Malarone. They cost about £40 for the week between the private prescription and the tablets themselves. I usually do a week in December in Naama Bay, Sharm, Taba or Nuweiba. Last year, instead, I did a cruise to South Africa through the Med, Suez, along the Red Sea and round the Horn of Africa- the world's worst place for piracy but didn't know that when I booked!
Never been to Goa but am sure you will enjoy it.0
