Apparently I won a prize!

Hi there,

I had a phone message left on my answer machine last night.  The message clearly states that "Basically, you have won either two first class tickets to New York, a cruise to Spain, 5 grand or possibly a Audi TT"  This is from a company called World Promotions Prize Line.

Now, I can either call them (I assume on a VERY high cost phone line) or I can send them a letter (for the cost of a stamp) to claim my prize.  I know that there is probably a catch somewhere (you don't get anything for free).

So has anyone heard of this company and the scam that they are probably running.  Or has anyone else claimed such a prize before?

Cheers,
C.

  • No-one ever has won a prize from any of these conmen. If you didn't enter you didn't win. :( If you reply by post you will win at best a cruise to Spain for which you will have to pay a fee, for admin purposes of course, the cruise will also never happen and the money will be down the Spanish drain. The credit card advert had got it very right.

And "cruise to Spain" means a Portsmouth-Santander car ferry on a single person, no accommodation, basis more than likely. Or mandatorily sharing a cabin with 3 other people you don't know.

    Hmm.

Well for starters, don't ever ring these people at £x.xx per minute [minimum call five mintes or so] but write to them at the address which will be somewhere in the middle of the biggest block of the smallest print on the form/card/rubout.

Secondly, you are most likely to have won the smallest stroke least valuable item on offer.

To date I have won AN EMERALD. Valued by my local jewellers at a hugely impressive £0.01 yes you read it right - one penny. Then again I won a DVD for the cost of a few stamps. Not a _player_ a DVD. Damn shame I'd already seen the film on TV.

Then again I won a weeks holiday in the Bahamas. At possibly more than four days notice. For one. Well hard luck to them NYER, 'cos I can be anywhere in four days and there's only me to consider so I shall NOT be shelling out the however many hundred quid to bring the missus along.
Of course, a year later, I'm still waiting for my ticket...

    But lookit...

Treat them as a scam. Invest in a few stamps. And just hope that maybe this one actually delivers. After all - by my reckoning I'm still in front. Just.
