UPDATE - here's the latest:
went to the ASDA store today, said to the lady 'this chicken I bought isn't consumable'.....she looked at the bag, took a gasp and asked 'how many?'.....four said I. 'No Problem' she said, go instore and pick the same value worth and if you don't spend your credit we'll give you a card so you can spend it some other time.
I was over the moon, pleased as punch, and I must say thanks to the wonderful woman at ASDA customer service compartment, such people deserve a raise.0 -
asda cs has always been great for me too.0

Take the Chicken back. The reason cheap chicken smells or tastes like ham is because of the rubbish they feed them.
Tesco or Sainsbury chicken definately better try buying fresh when on offer and freezing it.
True test of good chicken when you roast it it smells like chicken!!! Not bacon or fish.
I accept people are on a budget but if meat is really cheap what does that say about the way it was produced. When I was a kid in the sixties Chicken was quite expensive and beef was cheap strange how things change.0 -

why would smartprice asda products be expected to taste nice?
I would have thought it would be a close call as to whether it was predominantly chicken or water?
or factory sweepings?Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -

Why shouldn't they? Just because certain foods are cheaper -
doesn't mean they should taste worse?
Got to be honest, even if it were a matter of life and death, I wouldn't buy that chicken - i'd rather go vegetarian and eat healthily tbh!
I do think though that we're all being brought up to believe that because it's more expensive, it's better. I can make enough soup to last my family of five for nearly two months for under a fiver, and its nice! They all enjoy it and we eat it on a Sat lunchtime..
Chicken is so expensive anyway (unless its precooked) and I really will not buy the normal cheap birds because its so obvious they've lived a terrible life. We shouldn't be being subjected to that quality of food just because its the value brand. No chocolate, cosmetics or clothes to be bought before xmas day 14! ~ NPower eBay target £541.670 -
I bought the smart price fresh chicken breast fillets for £4.12 on the Tuesday, put them in my fridge (only 10 mins drive home from asda) and got them out on Friday to cook with and they reeked!!!!! best before was for this sunday. I rang and complained as worried someone else might get food poisoning. They apologised and offered me full refund if I took packaging in with me next time I shop. I will never buy again, my local butcher from now on, only bought from asda as convenient at time. And the price is actually cheaper at butcher.0
