Worried about dog op!!!????

Wondered if anyone can offer advise or help.
My English Pointer is 12 now and sleeps most of the day he is an old boy and has had a big operation 18 months ago on his spine (cervical disk replacement) his back legs are not too good.
He also had a big lump cut away by his bum around the same time this was something to do with testosterone.
This lump has now come back and is now the size of a snooker ball I have to make a decision whether to have it done again and at the same time castration. Then apparently it will not grow back.
But I am really worried about the op with the anesthetic as he huffs and puffs now and sleeps all day. Also last time he had the lump taken away the vet said she could not dig around too much as it may of effected his ability to poo.
The lump is very big now so unsightly (so thats just a cosmetic problem really) but when he poos it all goes all over it so am constantly cleaning him.
I am really worried about my old boy and the anesthetic ie not waking up and if I cause more trouble by making him incontinent. He is my baby !!!
What should I do any advise please - I am going to the vets in the morning!!!
Anyone know much about this and operations on old boys !!!!

An anastetic on an elderly dog is always going to carry a high risk with it - I can't lie and tell you it won't... The lump might only be costmetic for now, but eventually it will affect his ability to poo and it can easily get a scratch injury and get infected.
Yes I would say goodbye to him tomorrow... just in case. But also be prepared to speak to the vet and say that if they think his bowel movements and urinary system will be affected then it might be kinder to let him pass away peacefully - they will probably only be able to tell this once he is under though...
Remember the final kindness we can do to the furbabies we have is to make sure they are not in pain and pass peacefully and with dignity... this is usually the hardest duty we have but one that one day you will have to make...
Hope all goes well tomorrow - but if it doesn't then remember he had a good life and was dearly loved...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

It is sad
And I dread the day my furbabies leave me - I was devastated when my mum's dog was put to sleep, I loved that dog so much... and every dog I've known since that eventually has had to be put to sleep I've cried over even if they weren't mine...
I guess they are here such a short time because otherwise there wouldn't be enough loving homes for all the gorgeous delightful furry creatures out there
But I think they all go and wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge...
