Gas or Ceramic Hob

Someone touched on it earlier, but what exactly is the difference in costs estimated to be between ceramic and gas? Thinking of getting a new kitchen (partly because I don't liek the idea of gas hobs - though I haven't used them yet!) but will stick with gas if it's loads cheaper and I'd get used to it. Similar with the oven I guess? Is it much more for electric?0

I've just switched from a gas hob to a ceramic (electric) hob. I love being able to just give it a wipe over when I'm finished.
If I'm boiling water for pasta or rice, I boil the water in the kettle first as this saves time. I used to do this on my gas hob too."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
The kind of hob depends on what kind of cook you are. If you are at all serious about it, you need heat that is instantly variable, ie gas or induction
How easy it is to clean is the least important aspect of it
I've put up with a ceramic hob for the past few weeks while we wait for our kitchen to be planned/bought. I hate it with a passion0 -
Yeah, I was thinking of the induction ones - they're pretty good right?0

I really, really, really wanted an induction hob but you can't install one above a built under oven unless there's a certain clearance between the two and I didn't have that clearance.
I was upset but went with the ordinary ceramic and haven't been disappointed."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Whats so difficult about cleaning a gas hob? I find mine just as easy to clean, as the cermanic ones I have used when I have been on holiday.0

My oven is across the other side, but I may be tempted by regular ceramic anyway. I'm used to it, and I suck at cooking, so induction may be wasted on me!
@ House owner, well, I've never used a gas one myself as I said, but cleaning the thing is a bloody nightmare! Ceramic you just wipe across once, and done. It comes up amazingly clean and they look great. Gas by contrast is the opposite. The metal below gets really dirty and smeary, the actual bits with the gas are horrible as are the bits you put your pans on.
Anyone actually know about costs of gas vs ceramic, in terms of energy/using them?0 -

My ceramic hob is just a piece of black glass. No knobs, plates, dips, bars, just a smooth, shiny, black rectangle.
My old gas hob came in 11 pieces and even though I could put 10 of them into the dishwasher, it never looked as clean as the day it was installed."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
I hate this thread. My kitchen looks alrightish, but I still fancied a new one, but couldn't really decide. But now I'm thinking, if I go for a new kitchen now, and go ceramic, could be a good option
Do you guys stick with your gas ovens then? But have an electric (either ceramic or induction) hob?0 -
I am obviously not cleaning my gas hob properly, have never felt the need to take it all apart...0
