So far my only argument for a ceramic one is that it will probably be easier to clean than a gas one.

Thats the only reason you need;)

20 minutes to boil a pan of water, did you switch the hob on? I've just tried a medium sized saucepan without lid and mine took 8 minutes.

Back to op though, if you're used to gas and like it I would probably stick to it. I personally love ceramic because it's much nicer to look at, alot easier to clean, I don't like naked flames and having watched my mum nearly burn the house down with the odd stray teatowels on the gas hob in their rented house my nerves couldn't stand it! It's horses for courses really, I've always used ceramic hobs so it's what I'm used to, a few have said on here they had gas and are now ceramic converts but also others who say they hate them. I'm a serious cook by the way as well and do some complicated cookery and have no problems with the heat not being variable because I'm used to it.

I'd go for ceramic too, looks much nicer and so easy to clean.

I am a convert ,never thought I would change from gas but OMG wish I did it sooner ,would never go back to gas now
I Love my ceramic hob !! sooooo easy to clean and soooo much cheaper to run !!
I put a pan of pasta/rice/spuds/veg on to boil and then turn the hob off and it continues cooking ,still in the same time it would on the gas hob on simmer but with the power turned off !!

Ok so I think that if you are into cooking then gas is the answer, no serious cook would ever dream of ceramic. If it is just something that cooks your food and want easy cleaning then ceramic it is.

If you read the reviews of induction many seem to suffer problems at the very low levels required for simmering.

The main problem is the only affordable(most people) option for a Wok is gas. They do induction for wok but these are expensive(£1kish).

So if you do wok cooking you need gas so might as well go all gas or combo.
