Motability scheme

Hi, I've heard a few people talk about a 'good condition bonus' sorry for being a numpty, but what is it?I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

no not a numpty at all dont worry.
Its a payment you get when you hand the car back if in good condition and havent made any insurance claims.
Its £200
Great for helping towards the advance payment you have to make on some cars. We chose the mazda 5 which had an advance payment of £295 which meant we only had to find £95 thankfully.Eleventh Heaven no 710 - we can all dream0 -
For children they often do the awards to changes in schools ect from what I can work out.
Do you believe you would be likely to get it again in 2 years time (18 months time as they send it out 6 months prior to date)

His condition is deteriorating at the moment, he's having a series of spinal operations every 4 months or so then a final operation to fuse the spine and replace the rods he's got in now with larger ones  when he stops growing. The rest of his joints etc are quite badly affected too now so he's not going to ever gain a great deal more mobility sadly...
It'll be an immense help knowing we can get him backwards and forwards for his ops without praying for the car to last the journey :rotfl: (Yes I really do,do this!!):o0 -
thank goodness for the DLA then. You deserve it hunny.
I hope you find a suitable car to make his life and yours so much easier.
I am sure you will.

I'm waiting for a new fiesta, in Hot Magenta!
Never had a new car before, and everyone assures me that motability cars are great!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Another fan of the motability scheme. Been a named driver for my Father and a close friend . Never had any problems with returning a car with fair wear and tear.
Did look closely into the financial side, wether to buy / lease. But the price of peace of mind was considerable.0 -
The £200 good condition bonus is sent to you when you return the car in good condition, if you haven't made a claim on the insurance during the lease period.
If the car is damaged when you return it, then motability will make the claim on the insurance policy to repair it so they can sell it on, which seems fair to me.
"Good condition" is judged by the dealers salesman when you return the car, and to be honest, they are being pretty generous.
My last one did have a scrape/dent on the back bumper (OK, I backed into the low bit on my brother-in-law's hay baler), but the salesman still ticked the box that said it was fine, so I got a cheque in the post a couple of weeks later.
As I'd scraped a bit to stump up the £250 advanced payment for the car I needed (auto estate, a bit of a difficult requirement), I was well chuffed.
Oh, one more thing for the OP, when your lease ends (after 3 years, or when DLA is recinded), you can have a word with the dealer about buying the car, second hand. If you really like the car it's a good deal, you know it's history, it's been well maintained, so it's quite a sensible buy.
Oh and one more point if you would rather buy, there is a dealer here in nottingham that specialises in selling ex-motability cars. Loads of them have had few miles on the clock, and properly main-dealer maintained, with a new MOT when they come to market, so that is a thought too.

(oh, I don't have any connection with them btw, just know they exist).I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
One point to note: With a motability car if you have an accident they will do their best to get a similar car for you when yours goes for repairs. I have been unlucky to need this twice, we have a seven seater, last time I had a VW Sharan, this time I've got a Kia Sedona. Just think without motability I would have got a Toyota Yaris, not enough room for six and a wheelchair. Peace of mind is worth a lot.0

i wasnt aware that there was another option for those of us in receipt of the lower rate mobility! I had a look at their website, and it doesnt really give any details, other than asking at local showroom.
Does anyone have any info/personal experience of this please?0 -
Well just a little update for info how it works for other first timers. We went to the showrooms and have decided on the Nissan Qashqai The man there was extremely helpful and did all the forms in no time.We had a bit of a saga today as we have to get a form stamped at the job centre..
Now our JC has been in the same place for 40+ years..we go there to find its moved and we weren't sure where to so after wandering around for an hour we finally found it only to find out we need to make an appointment :rotfl:
DS2's next op is scheduled for the 1st wk in Jan so fingers crossed we can get it sorted by then.
We took DS3 to see it *and check if it's tough enough to stand up to him* and he loved it..the salesman was very good with him even while he sat there trying to lick the upholstery and twiddle the poor mans hair
Don't think he'll forget us in a hurry :rotfl: Really impressed so far!0
