  • likewise, i'm happy with a 3 night break fri-sun for 2 in the centre of paris 3* hotel for £201 inc eurostar.

Also non-londoners note: you can get a special rate on travelling to london on GNER routes (i'm travelling from Leeds for eg, for £38.)

Anyone wanting info on how to do this, i can save you some research.

Is the £38 price for two people - I got £19 for one person by booking two singles.

The Times site is out of date, and isn't actually for this offer but it didn't have a site mentioned in the paper. You have to travel before the end of March with it and only needs two codes.

I put some Fridays and Sundays in on Midland Mainline's site and they said £19 each using GNER, I think it's worth you checking out, but maybe that early train doesn't offer the cheapest fares...

Two nights and the train from £59pp

After the cosy confinement of Christmas, the new year is the perfect time to jump on a train and race off to a fresh location. Take up this offer from The Sunday Times and Eurostar, and you could make the trip for a lot less than you’d expect.

You and a friend can choose from six cities in France and Belgium, travel there and back on Eurostar and stay two nights in a hotel, and only pay the price for one person. Which works out to be as little as £59 each for the entire trip.

The first thing to do is pick your destination. There’s always Paris, of course — broad boulevards, sophisticated nightlife, the eternal Seine. Or how about Lille, less hectic but equally well supplied with designer shops and pretty brasseries. Then there’s Belgium, and the beauty and charm of Brussels and Bruges, the gentle canals of Ghent or Antwerp, the diamond capital of the world.

You can travel almost any time between New Year’s Day and February 28. Prices are based on two people sharing a room on a bed and breakfast basis.

To book, you need two passwords. The first will be printed in The Sunday Times December 11, and there will be one more in The Times from tomorrow until Friday and a final one in next weekend’s Sunday Times. Book early with your bonus online password below.

Lille is nice if the offer goes there. The Novotel hotels are reasonably priced.
