Beware the true costs of low flight airlines

Case in point – I have just booked a holiday from Leeds/Bradford to Krakow for 7 of us next June – flights are advertised at £9.99 each way – so individually £20 for a return fare – not bad.... until you get the add-ons.
We are going for a week so we need to take book a bag in the hold – an extra £5.99 each way – so the bill rises to £31.96
We want to sit together as a group for various reasons so another £3.99 each way – the bill rises to £39.94 – no double just to be able to get a seat and a bag on
Then the crunch – although somewhat expected we did not think the taxes and fuel supplement would be so expensive – taxes and fuel supplement – the latter not mentioned until everything else had been calculated and booked – another £49 each – making the fare up from £20 to £88.94.
Swallowing hard I am then informed that I cannot pay in any manner without incurring a card charge – even a debit card – which equates to another £1.60 per head so our £20 flight now costs over £90.
Now I get really upset with myself as when one of my colleagues tells me he uses his second name (yes we did check the other six but our friend Fred was on holiday and he really is called Charles on his passport) I have to ring up and pay
£1.30 for the phone call – premium rate
£50 admin fee
£10 additional flight cost (same seat but they have gone up)
£4.50 debit card fee
Admittedly my mistake but no-where when you are entering the passenger names (only in associated text elsewhere on the site) does it say – make sure the details match your passport – a bit lame on my part but this guy is in his late sixties and didn’t think to tell me before booking – but Jet2.com advertised a flight at £20 which ended up costing me almost £160.

I always book my flights in the name of Spartacus, in the hope that the flight attendant will stand up before take off and say "Which one of you is Spartacus?".
I believe it is my right to do this and I should not have to pay rip-off fees to change it to my real name before I can check in. Unfortunately the airlines do not see it this way and insist on charging me every time. Surely this should come under the same category as unfair bank charges.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
I reckon £90 return to Krakow is a great price.
I have taken train journeys lasting less than two hours that have cost more than that for a return ticket.
I think instead of complaining on here, you should pat yourself on the back for getting such a great bargain.0 -
The OP is amusing, but there is a serious point. Airlines are not allowed to advertise fares that do not include unavoidable charges like taxes and fuel supplements. To that extent, Jet2 has been guilty of sharp practice.0

I would love to know how you managed to book these flights before being advised of taxes/fuel supplements and surcharges for paying by debit card.
Are you saying you pressed the 'buy' button at £31.96 and after you had purchased these flights they miraculously increased the charge to £88.94 and debited your card again accordingly?
Who made you pay over £90 for these flights if you weren't happy with the price?0 -
It's trolll time folks.0
