Taking freshly made juice to work

Options
I recently treated myself to a decent juicer and have been enjoying juices all weekend.

However I'd like to take them to work but I know they don't last that long and oxidise and will go brown, losing all their nutrients etc.

Would they be ok if I put them in a chilled flask with some ice and a squeeze of lemon to preserve, till lunchtime perhaps?

Also, if anyone has any recipes for the pulp I would love to hear them as I really hate wasting it.

Thanks all :)

I don't know if the juice would last, but you might try stirring the fruit pulp into a basic sponge mix and see what happens. If it's veggie pulp, turn it into soup/stock?

The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

The pulp is brilliant on the compost heap!

maybe you could make the juice the night before, freeze it and by the time you're ready to drink it, it should be defrosted or like a Slush puppy anyway!

I think IF you get the juice in an airtight container asap, it may just about last. As you say, it oxidises when it has contact with the air, and the goodness begins to deteriorate so you lose the benefit, therefore less contact with the air the better.

  • Thanks all. I am sure this is why the juice bar near where I work does such a roaring trade (so overpriced too) - it is a hard thing to bring into work with you.

I don't have a compost heap at the moment but I could probably make one soley on all the pulp I'm generating :D ...will also try making a cake with the fruit stuff and keeping the veggie stuff for soups. Thanks :)

  • I got the Jack La Lanne Express (which is smaller than the original La Lanne) which is currently on intro offer at https://www.qvcuk.com. It was a huge amount of money (to me) - over £100 with postage, but it was worth it. I once had a £20 juicer from Argos and it was absolute rubbish so I took it back - you really do get what you pay for. This one gives you more juice from less fruit so you spend less in the long run.

I have done my experiment with the flask today, so will report back if any one is interested.

  • Well at 7.30am I put it in a flask with a few ice cubes and a squeeze of lemon, filled the flask right up to leave less room for air. It kept fine, I opened it around lunchtime and it was not brown and looked and tasted fine. You have to make sure you give the flask a shake though.

Badgergal, can you tell me if your juicer is easy to clean? Have been thinking of getting one, but don't know if all the cleaning will put me off!!
