  • DL Spybot Search & Destroy (free), run it in safe mode That should solve your problem.

  • Does this only come up in internet explorer? If so, it sounds like a spoof ad trying to hijack your home page. Have a look in internet settings (or options from the Tools menu in internet explorer) and check your home page.

Which spyware programs did you use, BTW

A tip if you do find your home page is getting changed, use start page guard:

  • Can't help you with resetting your home page as I've never had a problem doing it, but I'm sure there are loads of people who will be able to on this forum.

You need some kind of security in place to stop it happening again. You didn't mention which anti-spyware you're using, but FWIW I run the MS Beta product, Winpatrol (free version) and SpyBot SD Resident all the time. Between them they've caught every attempt to hijack parts of my system, and asked me if I really wanted it to happen.

Never heard of Start Page Guard, but it looks to be a one-shot solution whereas the ones I've mentioned cover a lot of other things. Any more info, mr_fishbulb?

"Spyaxe is a anti-spyware program that is know to issue fake warnings on your computer in order to manipulate you into buying its full commercial version. If you are infected with this program you may receive warnings in your task bar that appear to be from Microsoft Security Center stating that you are infected with spyware and to run its special anti-spyware tool. This tool turns out to be the commercial version of Spyaxe. These warnings are fake and are a goad to have you buy the commercial version of this
    software."

  • I only know what the site advises, basically download the removal tool (smitrem.exe) run it, reboot in safe mode (F8 probably), open the smitrem folder and click on RunThis.bat and then follow all the prompts.
