I've got a few for e-bay. Never sold before. What's the best way to go about it to (a) get the best price and (b) avoid scammers/getting stung?

I've got a spare core and I'm still deciding whether to eBay it - the scammers are putting me off! TBH you'd have to accept Paypal to get the best price, as most people prefer to pay with that and you're competing with other auctions where over 90% accept Paypal.

As for the scammers, I'm still trying to work that one out myself!
I was thinking of taking a picture with my digital camera showing my username, the xbox and todays paper, getting it weighed and finding out the postage costs including £500 insurance before and putting it on a 24 hr auction, nicely presented with my mobile number.

Sounds good, This thread has some good tips for selling 360s.
  • Cheers,

someone on that thread says they will only sell to verified paypal members. Are there 'unverified paypal members'? Or does it just mean he will only sell using paypal?

You can get verified and non-verified paypal members. I think verified means that the member has entered his bank details in (or something similar). Seller protection requires the buyer to be verified, and it's also preferable that the buyer has a Confirmed address. This means that credit card company has confirmed that the member's billing address is the same as the paypal address. Not all credit cards support this feature though. Have a read through the Paypal help section - there's a lot there to get your head around!
  • Okay, just reading through things now.

I've not got a clue how to present things nicely. Will it make a difference if I present things well like this one with a banner or should I just do something plain like this. I've no idea how to do stuff like that. I'm looking on a ebay page for basic html such as fonts and centreing but no idea on images.

    WRONG!

Being eligable for Seller protection requires several things, but most importantly delivery to a Paypal CONFIRMED DELIVERY ADDRESS via an online trackable method and signature on receipt if item is worth over £150. If they are Verified or not makes no difference whatsoever!

AFAIK, there's a basic HTML editor built into the eBay system. This will allow to make a basic page and also add images. If you want to make something more fancy then you'll have to create a page yourself with a separate web page design program and then import the HTML into your listing. Also I think you can get software specially designed to create eBay listings.
  • Cheers Charlie,

I'm gonna post the item description here. If you could tell me what you think of it and anything I should add to get a good sale/avoid scamming I'd be grateful.

Here is a fantastic opportunity to buy the much sought-after Xbox 360 Core Edition. Unlike European sellers this auction is for a UK Xbox 360 console which can be played straight from the box and comes complete with a wired controller, composite AV cable (with SCART adapter), Xbox Live Silver Edition and UK power supply.

The Xbox 360 is brand new, factory sealed and comes with twelve months warranty and a receipt of purchase from Argos Stores dated 12/12/05.

To ensure both buyer and seller protection I ask that only UK Paypal buyers bid on this auction. If I feel any bids are inappropriate I shall remove them from the auction. I will only send the Xbox if you are UK verified and I will only send to your confirmed address for my protection and yours. Alternatively if you are in the Greater Manchester/Lancashire area and would like to pick up the item in person you are more than welcome to do so for cash upon collection. Buying via this method will obviously mean you avoid incurring postage costs.

If you have any questions regarding this auction please do not hesitate to contact me either through e-bay, via e-mail at x@gmail.com or alternatively you can call me at home on xxxxxxxx or mobile on xxxxxxxxxx.

Thankyou for looking at my auction and good luck with bidding.

I'll include a few pics on the sealed box with todays paper and a piece of paper with my e-bay username.

    Thoughts anyone?
  • I don't think the description really matters, if people see a nice pic with your ID on it they will buy it.

Don't put a direct email address on the auction description, it might just tempt a competitor to turn you in for trying to deal outside ebay. Just for your own protection I would also be careful of using a telephone number so openly, there are some really odd people out there!
