The Register of Electors is used by the major credit checking companies for ID checking for loans, credit cards, morgages etc, etc so if you are not registered you may be declined.

As I said, complete pain if you can't go on the electoral roll. They shouldn't really place so much importance on it or at least make allowances for those who can't go on because it has little bearing on people's finances/stability etc.

exactly. i need 8k in order to pay for my course in january. if i'm lucky, my girlfriend's mum will lend me 6k, and the rest will have to come from hyper matched betting ;) . but if i didn't have that to call on, i'd have to defer my masters. and all for moving house in august. crazy.
  • How often do they update their info?
Have written to the council twice now (moved out in November 2007), and have just called AGAIN and found out I am STILL listed at the old address!
    Hi
Experian tell me that they will only update their Electoral Roll records in December. I have been turned down for credit by T Mobile due to the post code held by Experian being different to my correct post code (changed by the post office 6 months ago!) The Electoral Roll was wrong, they have now corrected the error, but Experian will continue to deny me a credit rating until December - they won't just correct their records!! I am therefore unable to get credit (or a phone contract) through no fault of my own. A very bad Experien(ce)
Any toughts? Write to my MP?

  • Hi there, I also have the same problem recently. I've e-mailed my local council (Hammersmith & Fulham) and got a call today from them. The lady on the phone was extremely pleasant. She told me whilst the electoral roll will only be updated on Dec 1, she can send me a letter confirming that I am on the electoral roll (or in the process of being included) and she said I can send her letter to Experian to have them updated if I need to access credit sooner. Hope this helps!
