How often do they update their info?
Have written to the council twice now (moved out in November 2007), and have just called AGAIN and found out I am STILL listed at the old address!

This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -

It is almost every month:
The rolling one is updated monthly between October and August: http://www.eroll.co.uk/electoralroll/#when_is_electorall_roll_published , and the next question: http://www.eroll.co.uk/electoralroll/#what_is_rolling_registerConjugating the verb 'to be":

hmmm...so does not being on the roll, because you have recently moved, count against you? i have been turned down by RBS for a CDL (career development loan), despite (i think) having average credit reports. i am not on the roll for my current address even though i applied the first week i moved in mid-august, but still on the roll at my parents' address.
will i have to wait until the electoral register is updated before applying for a loan again, or do companies take this lag into account?

Not being on the Electoral Roll certainly does count against you. In some cases it's one of the most important factors. My mum has been refused business bank accounts numerous times for no other reason than not being on the electoral roll (i.e. absolutely perfect applicant otherwise). A complete pain if you can't get put on the electoral roll. So it's definitely worth sorting out. And don't rely on companies taking anything into account. Most "decision makers" in banks etc don't usually think for themselves and literally rely on the computed scoring alone... "computer says no!" is actually very realistic in our experience."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

i tried calling LB southwark council, all i got back was a curt 'it's updated at the end of the year!' this will really put me up the proverbial creek if i have to wait until december.0

Did you specifically ask about the rolling register? They can't respond with "end of the year" for that."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Mine just said 1st December ... I'll forget about it until then, and deal with the issue of them NOT adding me when they leave me out again!0

no, i wasn't aware of that until reading your posts above. i'm emailing the council now to get their response.0 -
You can apply to go on the Register of electors anytime during the year from Dec to Sept by submitting an application form to your local council. The register is updated monthly with the applications received that month but there is a statatory timetable so the process can take several weeks.
During Sept to the end of Nov the Council will run an annual registration canvass where they will send a form to every property to ask the names of everyone who is living there and eligible to vote. From this information a revised Register of Electors will be published on or before the 1st Dec each year.
The Register of Electors is used by the major credit checking companies for ID checking for loans, credit cards, morgages etc, etc so if you are not registered you may be declined.
