European citybreak in January - where?

Looking to book a long weekend in mid-January, just need some ideas of where to go
I will most likely be going with a mate, so a romantic weekend in Rome or Venice is out of the question
Would like somewhere reasonably lively with good nightlife / restaurants / music scene... not particularly interested in tourist traps and drinking with other Brits, although in January it mustnt be too dead either.
Don't mind cold places... in fact I went to New York Jan 07, in sub zero temps and loved it!
So far, ideas I've plucked out of this air are: Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Prague, Budapest
Any feedback welcome

Thanks for the replies... went to Amsterdam for a night last year and loved it, would love to go back and see it properly!
Already done a citybreak in Barcelona this year, Helsinki sounds interesting!... will take a look0 -
Whilst I also love Barcelona and would return to Amsterdam, for a cold January break my vote goes to Berlin.

Have you been to Stockholm?
I went there in the winter ( November) and it was glorious, lovely snowy, like a postcard.
The nightlife is great too, the Swedes certainly are v freindly and up for a laugh, Its one of the freindliest places Ive ever been
Isnt cheapest though
but you might be able to get a good hotel deal directly with Destination Stockholm . I got a really nice 4* hotel for about 65 quid a night, and through booking through them you get a free Stockholm card http://www.visit-stockholm.com/index.htm which gets you some transport journeys/ train/ tram/ plus all the museums entrances and discounts. I hardly spent any money when I was in Stockholm due to this- apart from on booze
A great deal IMHO- and even better if you can get some nice cheap Ryanair flights, mine were about 25 return inc, to some lil ryanairport out there, and then it was about 10 quid for the coach to take me into Stockholm central.
Can be quite a cheap weekend away really -watch out for rsturaunts too- one of them charged me for putting my coat in the cloakroom :beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Try Morocco! Ryanair's January sale has unprecedented £10 single fares (inc all taxes, hand luggage only, pay using Electron etc) from Luton to Marrakech and Stansted to Agadir. Considering the UK APD is £40 to non-European destinations, this is a remarkable deal (plus it'll still be nice and warm down there in January).

I've never been to Scandinavia, thanks for the recommendation, Stockholm is definitely one to add to the list then!Try Morocco! I must admit I hadn't thought of Morocco, its another possibility0
