Is it allowed???
I bought some breakdown cover online last night, once i'd printed out the policy documents i noticed it said there was a £40 excess everytime you call them out
So i phoned today to cancel it within the 14 day cooling off period to be told it would cost me £15 to cancel it in administration fees
Is that allowed i thought the whole point of the 14 days was to be able to cancel with no come backs.

Sorry!
This site http://whatconsumer.co.uk/cooling-off-and-cancellations/ says
The insurer or broker must refund any monies paid by you within 30 days, although they have the right to deduct a reasonable admin charge, and a sum proportionate to the number of days cover you have had.
How much was the cover? who with if it was about £40 I would stick with it.0 -
The policy cost me £31 with rescuemycar.com but wasn't due to start until 27th October so haven't had any cover. I hadn't even had it 24 hours, just seems a lot to cancel it so decided i'm better off keeping it.
So if i have to call them out the cover will have cost me £71 and another £40 every time i call them out. If i have a full year without having to call them out then its not so bad having the piece of mind that i'm covered in case.0 -
i'd strongly recommend arguing that if they weren't up front with these fees its not fair to charge an admin fee. try consumer direct?
I've just been looking at getting breakdown cover with rescuemycar... the website states no call out fees!0 -
is the AA and RAC not still offering cover for £35?...work permit granted!0
-
I've just had a quote, £29 and no call out fee.0

cover including roadside, recovery, homestart etc etc is more like £100 but is much cheaper elsewhere0 -

unless you live in the middle of nowhere who really needs home start?
a basic package to get you from the motorway will be more than adequate. (in a reasonably serviced car).
if you live in an urban area it would work out cheaper to get a taxi for most in the eventuality of a non starter, and get it looked at later....work permit granted!0 -
I use Green Flag via Quidco.
My quote for my Peugeot 406 HDi,which is a V reg,was only £57 last year.It was £77,but I got £20 from Quidco, and have done the same for the wifes Astra.
No excess to pay on either. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
Just thought I would mention that I have now bought my policy. No mention of any excess to pay. After quidco is £33.60 and that includes roadside, recovery to anywhere in uk, homestart etc0

Hi All,
Just to clarify - all policies purchased directly from RescueMyCar.com come with no excess to pay.
We offer an exclusive product via Moneysupermarket.com which does have a £40 excess. This product costs just over £30 and covers vehicles aged new to 16 years... which some of our customers, particularly with older, yet reliable cars find represents good value for money.
Aside from the excess, it offers identical cover to our fully comprehensive with home assistance product (which includes roadside assistance, nationwide recovery, home assistance etc)
As some of you have pointed out - further savings can be made if purchasing via QuidCo.
Many thanks
Sarah
