For the delivery option - how would you know it hadn't been poorly handled in transit?

Much better to keep it at mum's house for visits, and buy a big girl's seat for her now...you would have been close to the next stage up anyway, I would think??

Wow thanks everyone for all the advice. We have asked the other set of Grandparents who are coming down this weekend to bring their spare one (they kept it when the other grandchildren grew up!) - this will do us in the interim I think until we get her a new one.

Thanks for the courier advice - I may suggest that to my mum as it sounds the best idea - certainly cheaper than driving to get it! And she is always sending parcels to my DD so that might be better for her cost wise anyway.

Skintas - I will pm you

My daughter has one like this in pink they are only £23.99 and are suitable for a child from 9 to 36kg (approximately 9 months to 12 years).

And you know why they are £24 , its because they are rubbish , do you self a favour and get a decent seat.

The Britax Hi-Liner comes top in Which tests and is only £15 more, or the newer version which is the Evolva 2-3

In YOUR opinion! Plus if you actually read what i said my daughter has one 'like' this i didn't actually say that one, the one my Daughter has is actually £40 but the OP wanted a cheap one!

I have had it over a year and there is absolutely nothing at all wrong with it. I am not stupid i value my Daughter's life i did read reviews before i bought it for her, read the reviews for yourself before you judge!

Not to mention the fact that by law these seats are rigourously tested before they are sold!!

These are the reviews for my carseat http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3760275.htm its pretty good getting a score of 4.6 out of five for something that is 'rubbish'.

These are also the reviews for the cheaper one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3754494/Trail/searchtext%3EBABY+SEAT.htm, again pretty good scoring 4.1 for something rubbish.

http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/standards/r4403.htm The standards that the carseats must meet regardless of price!

So please instead of telling me to do myself a favour (for help that wasn't even being given to yourself) please read things before posting about something you clearly know very little about!
  • But did you read the crash test reports ? The reviews you say about are only peoples opinions of the seat , not crash test results , which in my eyes are much more important .
I spent 3 times the amount of that seat on my daughters seat which is the same concept , high backed booster with a harness . The reason I spent £120 is that it came out as 1 of the best seats in it's class .
Those kind of cheap seats are exactly that , cheap and nasty in my opinion . But then me and Deanos are known for our very strong views on child car seats .

http://www.childcarseats.org.uk/standards/r4403.htm the seats in the dont buy section also have been tested to these standards as well ! http://users.aol.com/dco634/Seat%20Report%202007.pdf (courtesy of Deanos)

Car seats are NOT rigorously tested, in fact the test is quite basic and needs a big overhaul.

Check out the Which reports, they test at higher speeds , which your supposed rigorous tests DO NOT INCLUDE

Please read the Which report above

"Our tests are stricter than the legal minimum standard which we feel isn’t tough enough. We simulate crashes with forces used in Euro NCAP vehicle crash tests, which more accurately reflect what happens in a real crash.
We fire a Vauxhall Astra car body down a track, then stop it.
The tests are recorded with super-slow-motion cameras, and the dummies are equipped with acceleration sensors to help determine whether a child would survive the impact of the crash."
  • We had a similar problem when my baby was 9 months he is very long but skinny so his legs were to long for the rear facing seat (legs touching the car seat) but his weight was well under 9kg. In the end we bought a new seat that went from newborn to four and I must say I did turn it to forward facing a little early he wasnt 9kg until about 3 months later but I thought it was just as dangerous having him all scrunched up in a seat that looked to small. Its a difficult one.

'Scrunched up' isn't a problem, have you seen how the Formula 1 drivers struggle into their cars - it's the same principle! You need an infant carrier car seat to be a good fit around the baby's body to protect it in the event of a crash. A baby should also be able to sit up confidently for 30 minutes before you think of turning them forward facing, so should be over the weight limit by then.
The longer you can keep them rearward facing, the safer they are - my geat nephew was 18 months (admittedly he was small!) before he got his Britax Evolva seat, but it took him that long to get to 29lbs.
Legs looking cramped and touching the back of the seat of the car is not really a problem - but an unprotected head/neck/spine in a forward facing seat before the baby is ready, is.

I have copied and pasted this but will provide the link as well for you ok . Rear facing is the best for babies ok .

"Q: My baby is not yet 9kg in weight, but his feet are dangling over the end of his child seat. Should I move him into a group 1 forward facing seat? A: No. Child restraints are tested and approved for the child's weight not age. Provided that the top of your child's head does not extend above the back of the seat, s/he should remain in the rearward-seat until s/he is over 9kg and can confidently and comfortably sit up for a reasonable length of time (30 minutes or more is a good guide).
Do not rush to move your baby into a forward-facing seat, rearward-facing is safer and gives better protection to their head, neck and spine in a crash."

    Hope this helps
