I'm fully expecting the energy companies to bleat something along the lines of "can't pass cuts on to customers because they've been subsidising the market for so long " or...we're saving the surplus for the future....I would not mind quite so much if they didn't do it so blatantly collectively...OK...it does hack me off that it's straight forward price collusion. For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070

MSE, F.T., Which? et al are all useful guides. They aren't infallible but sources of useful information. Recent events tend to show there are no experts. The lack of understanding of their own world shown by The Masters Of The Universe in the city have proved that.
To switch or not to switch is very subjective. I switched in May to a 3yr fixed. My decision at the time was that the fixed I was switching to was within a few pounds going to cost me the same as for the year I had just paid. From the information available at that time it seemed likely that prices were going to be hiked in the summer, and they were.
So at the moment it looks like a good move. Had that information not been available I would still have switched. The reason is that I now know for the next two and a half years what my energy will cost. I know that I can afford it.
I have absolutely no idea what energy prices will be in 6 months or two years or whatever. I don't really care either. Unless they drop around 50% from where they are now I won't bother switching until my deal is near to finishing. But that is what suits me.
If you are happy with your deal and your supplier then stay put. If not switch. I don't see the point of scrutinising every deal going every week or so to save £40 or £50 a year. There must be easier ways to save a quid or two a week.0 -
