Hi,

I have a KC telephone line and am confused over whether I have to use KC for broadband or if I can go anywhere else to get it cheaper. The cheapest KC package is £8.49 for 3 months and £13 thereafter plus £30 set up fee. I feel they have a monopoly in Hull and surrounding areas.

You are correct, they do have a monopoly and you have to live with it, this is a legacy of Hull hanging onto the phones when phones in rest of the country was nationalised under the General Post Office decades ago

For all those decades Hull phone users laughed all the way to the bank as GPO, then BT charged under their national monopoly, since privatisation etc the boot has gone on the other foot, and you are wearing it unfortunately

Other suppiers could build exchanges, or dig the roads up to lay fibre optic cables, but as the potential custom base would be small, relatively speaking, other companies feel they will not get a return on capital spent, so the do not spend it
