There have been a few of us on here who have taken a virtual bashing for suggesting the energy companies have been ripping us off for ages. We've had the usual accusation of being 'irrational', 'ranting', 'you know nothing' blah blah blah. I for one have never claimed to be an expert on this subject (I'm always extremely wary of self-proclaimed experts on ANY subject, to be honest.) and have always approached this subject from the layman's/customer's point of view because that's what I am.
An interesting development has occured during the last few days where people who really SHOULD know their stuff have been getting their criticism of the energy companies in print. People like Allan Asher (ex head of Energywatch) and the University of Sheffield professor (Philip Wright) featured on the recent Dispatces show, not to mention Ed Mayo at Consumer Focus have all been particularly scathing regarding what they see as the energy company's profiteering and lack of competition in the industry. Asher is actually suggesting that average energy bills COULD be cut by as much as £400 per year!
Are these people wrong? Or are the energy companies about to get their long-due come-uppance?

Ah, but they'll just cite the plunging pound against the dollar as a get out clause!
