We had to use a payment holiday in February. It was another long hospital stay. Husband had some time of work. We was hoping to take a payment holiday in December/January.

We have a 9 year old. Usually we go to family for x-mas but i want to stay home this year. I need "how to do christmas dinner on a budget"

Well, we have established that NR will allow payment Holidays on the type of mortgage you have.

If you did request reduced payments & this was a successful request, I would imagine they would not offer you any further Holiday because my understanding of the terms of these payments Holidays is that you must be paid up with no arrears.

As to whether a reduced payment request would be successful, I have no experience on this. My only caution would be that if you did make a request that was turned down, there is a possibility this would be noted & may affect a future request for a payment Holiday.

    Hi
sorry to hear about your situation

If your husband is an informal or family carer for you he is entitled to a carers assessment in his own right from your social services department. This may possibly lead to additional support to enable him to continue caring and should also provide a benefits check. It is also possible that he may be eligible for a carers direct payment which may help your situation.

The main problem with my husband looking for work is that he needs to bring home at least £1400 a month to be able to pay the mortgage/council tax and keep us going. There's no jobs out there at the moment they are all paying £6ph.

Is this for building work? Is there any chance he could look for work in other fields just to get some more money coming in (and there would be huge psychological benefits for him, too)? Don't forget that tax credits will top up any earnings he does make. The fact that you are disabled means he will get a premium rate too.

  • He can't get direct payments because he lives with me. I have been assessed as needing £1600 a month care but he can't have it, it has to go to outside carers. So it builds up in a bank account. Really annoying.

My Husband has looked for other work but it's pretty slack. Biggest employer where we live is Honda and even they are not taking on.

I was worried about him emotionally but i've found he enjoys day time tele I think he's secretly trying to tell me something. I keep giving him jobs around the house to do to keep him busy!!

    Thanks

Oh, I've filled in the forms for housing benefit but, i believe they only pay interest upto £100k. It's been a while may-be i should chase them up.

Just read through your thread you've certainly been through alot. Just incase your not aware housing benefit will not be able to help you with your mortgage. Alot of people think they can. You would need to make the claim with income support for help with the mortgage, however, if you have insurance to cover this it is unlikely that you will get any help. Maybe that's what you have actually done so am sorry if i've misread the post. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear. They should be able to deal with council tax benefit for you and if you are in receipt of Income support you should receive maximum council tax benefit.

I hope you get the help you need soon

    I guessed as much.

I wish it was easy that we could get rid of the house, go bankrupt and just be able to relax.

But, being in this situation of needing full adaptations to a home makes it really difficult. It's frustrating that when things go wrong there's no where to turn when it comes to debt problems. I took for granted that i would always be working, I was never ill and bang this hit me full on.

I wish i could warn people not to think your invinciable I was only 28 when this happened.

I'm sure everybody on this website wishes they could have there time again. I never would have got a credit card/loan or i could.

I am going to ring NR today and see what they suggest.

    Thanks for everybodies help.
