The Real cost of Mobility Scooters

Hi Sontrica. Can you split your posts up a bit into paragraphs? It makes it much easier to read!! Thanks
You do make some valid points, such as taking the scooter to the repairer rather than getting them to come out. The only problem with that is that if you are like me and not allowed to drive, you don't have much choice!!
oh and sorry about the lack of paragraphing. I tend to forget when I get going.
Hope people can get the message though.0 -
Hi Oscar The Grouch, I do not have nor have I ever had a driving licence. I have some very good friends with a driving licence though.
Good for you.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
I'm having problems with my Wife's Stirling Sunrise purchased for a shop 2nd had about a year ago, now does not want to know about repairing it. It as a on board charger that's no longer working, you cant get a replacement on board charger for it, another engineer wants to charger 70 pounds for a second hand charger no warranty! and a loom which means we would have to take the seat off every time it needs charging by putting clips on the battery terminals, any ideas please?0

I'd be careful buying scooters second hand - remember to do your research first as there's alot of scooters out there that are alot older than 7 years, so you will find it tricky to find spare parts if something does go wrong.
Plus alot of companies out there wont cover or service scooters that old, especially if they are off eBay so be careful!!
Theres alot of information on here about buying a scooter and what to look out for - sterlingscooters.co.uk0 -
@ bobgard. if the fitter can install a loom, then he can install a plug with the correct socket for the charger, dont cost much more and is very easy todo. then u just plug the scooter stright into charger. all done. i needed to sort a new charger out for mine and thats all i do,i charge it at night in shed. hope that helps.:beer:0

Remember though, if you are in receipt of higher rate mobility allowance, you can use some of your allowance to get a mobility scooter. The details are here
Only if you are desperate, they charge top wack (rrp) for any scooter and top wack APR, scooters are available much, much cheaper than through motability and I wouldnt even look at it unless you have a very bad credit history.0 -
Hello,
my first posting on this forum.
I have a small 'portable' mobility scooter (folds to fit in a car), but the 'clutch assembly seems to be faulty.
We took it into a mobility repair shop, run by a charity, but the cost of fixing it seemed prohibitive, but my husband thinks he could replace the part if he could find where to get spares.
Does anyone know if there are mobilty scooter breakers yards (like for cars), or where we could find a spares supplier,
We think the scooter was made in Taiwan.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Love
