I'd take Delta any day over that hell hole of an airport!Tojo_Ralph wrote: »Only if flying direct ..... If not flying direct, the OP is likely to be going AF via CDG.

As a sight impaired traveller I'd rather walk to my destination than fly with Air France after my experience with them when flying to Brazil. The cabin crew were just so rude and at one point I even had an air hostess screaming at me to fill out a landing form even when both myself and another traveller tried to explain to her that as I am a UK passport holder I didn't have to do this! Avoid Air France at all costs even if it will cost u more to travel with another carrier.0

Disagree, Delta were fine - both internally and internationally.
On the ground they are the biggest set of muppets to ever grace the earth, their check in is completely different to every other airline and it just doesn nothing more than create confusion and hassle. The staff as arrogant and couldnt care less about you or your journey. But... Once on board they are absolutley fine.
In fact one of the stewardesses came over and brought my daughter a magazine that she had had mailed to her house. She said she had brought it on the the flight knowing that a little girl would really appreciate it - you just dont get that anymore these days so it was a rarity.
As for the overhead TV - not on my flight we had seat back TV's with Sky tv on them.0 -
A huge thanks to all who replied - a real mixed bag of responses! We are flying with Delta as we're travelling direct, so no CDG which sounds like a nightmare.
I will report back and let you know my experiences anyway.

In my experience Delta aren't especially bad - they're just the same as all of the big US carriers. They're all pretty mediocre. There aren't any really good airlines flying UK-US (Virgin are probably as good as it gets). You'll be OK with Delta - I wouldn't worry about it.0

Hi, I'm flying home from L.A with Air France, it was originally meant to be a direct flight but they are no longer doing a direct route to Heathrow so I am connecting at Charles De Gaulle. Bit worried now from what you have said about security. Any tips to help me out when I get there?Tojo_Ralph wrote: ».....
That said, assuming you are flying direct, you will avoid the worst thing about Air France and that is Charles De Gaulle and those ignorant B******S at security...... If however you aren't flying direct, I'll happily tell you all you need to know to enable you to deal with those ignorant B******S at security

Give yourself plenty of time.
The gate where you arrive is likely to be quite a long way from your departure gate. It would probably be possible to walk it, but they will encourage you to wait for a transit bus. This will take longer than you would believe possible.
On leaving the bus, there will be a long queue for security. Their scanners are set to a very high level of sensitivity, so it will take ages as the people in front of you have to open their hand luggage for a visual search. Be sure that you too will have to open your bags, remove everything, and then have trouble packing it all in again. By which time your onward flight will have gone, but no-one will care (apart from you).
The worst is, if your incoming flight is late, you miss your onward flight and there are no more flights that day to your final destination, no-one will do anything about finding you a place to stay, nor food....
Something similar happened to me. My incoming flight from China was late, and so all the transit passengers going to London were met and escorted direct to our departure gate. Sounds like a good idea, but I was one of the first people off and had to wait ages for everyone else (they check passports before letting you off the 'plane for flights from 'dodgy' countries). Then the bus to our departure gate took ages; then I got held up by security (who were polite enough, but so slow). Then our escort told me that my 'plane had gone.
He then took me to the transit desk and explained what had happened, and they offered to put me on a later flight that day. I said that I would rather travel the next day: I was tired, and did not fancy a very late arrival into London. They agreed, explaining that they could not give me a hotel since it was my choice to spend the night in Paris. Fine, I understood, and anyway I had a place to stay there.
At this point things went wrong. I explained that the address in Paris was on the hard disk of my computer, which had no power. Could I please plug it in to the mains plug beside her desk? She refused, telling me to go to a computer centre and vaguely waving in its general direction. I persisted: I just wanted a tiny bit of electricity. She wandered off somewhere.
I searched for the computer place, couldn't find it, ended up in the lost luggage office. I asked the people there for electricity, and they were very helpful: gave me the use of a plug; then explained what kind of adaptor I needed; then told me where I could buy one. But they could only be pleasant to me because doing so was not part of their job. While I was in that office, a procession of luggage-less travellers came through asking for help, and were dismissed with the most incredible arrogant indifference. I still cannot understand how the same people who were so kind and helpful to me, which was not their work, could be so unpleasant to the people they were being paid to help.0 -
