same here 500 points and nowt to spend it on
  • Just a heads up that comments on the environment site (another discussion site) about this greenrewards site suggest that the OP for the discussion there may have an interest in promoting greenrewards.

So maybe, perhaps, the OP here is the same - original posting wording is similar on both mse and the environemnt site, though the OP on the other site denies posting on mse.

And most of their posts here do keep plugging the same greenrewards site.

Add to that the mysterious rise in points costs, that meant that only the first few subscribers could get 'free' things for 1000 points, after which, with no apology or explanation all points prices rose above 1000, encouraging actual spend.

Makes me a little suspicious. And when you start to look around you find there's another newbie promoting greenrewards too.

I'll report this to the mods - as the site no longer offers anything free, unless you have well over 1000 points, and you can't accumulate those without spending first - so it's now in the wrong forum anyway - and might, perhaps, be promoting the OP's own business.

Happy to wrong on all this, but it doesn't look good.

Carbon offsetting is still free - it's not a tangible freebie, but it is a freebie. Perhaps a Board Guide or the OP could edit the original post to point this out and save new visitors to this thread from being disappointed?

As for not being able to get anything free anymore - as soon as something hits MSE, the promotion tends to be short lived! Tis the nature of this forum. ;)

Yes, carbon offsetting is still free - but we are given no information on the nature of the carbon-offsetting - so cannot judge whether it's a good offsetting scheme or just one of those 'plant a few trees' jobs that doesn't achieve much, as they often are left unmanaged and die - which defeats the object of the exercise. True carbon-offsetting requires some evidence of longterm commitment etc and if their scheme is good they should be telling us all about it. The greenrewards site tells us Absolutely Nothing about the nature of their offsetting - their FAQ says simply:
    What is carbon offset?
Carbon offsetting is a way to reduce the effect of your carbon dioxide emissions, either as an individual or an organisation. Find out how to redeem your points for carbon offsets in our Green Shop.
Which isn't a lot of info is it? If their offset scheme is a good and effective one I would expect a lot more info - as they should be proud of it.

But my suspicions about the 1000 point sign-up remain, whether or not the offsetting is any good. If the scheme is done in conjunction with a BBC site, I would guess greenrewards get a small payment from the sponsor each time someone signs up with the promotional code - so it's in someone's interest to get as many as possible to sign-up, and to give back as little as possible...

ive just done a little research and ive found that green rewards use this company to support projects for carbon offestting. they dont plant trees! theres actually a link to this information on the page that you spend your points on carbon offestting on the green rewards site.

I saw the offer on teh Gardeners World site and it took me to BBC Green, at the time it was offering freebies but I guess they didnt know that MSE's would bombard them with orders. If this post now needs moving then can someone tell me how? :o
