she is not asking about expense of travel to her regular place of work. The problem is where they are sending her to work requires 2-2.5hours of travel each way. They send her to different place every 2 weeks.

But this is 100% normal for a major accountancy firm, whether it's a student placement, graduate placement, or long term worker. These major firms take on jobs from all areas!

A small accountancy firm will often have clients much closer to home.

She could probably complain about the long hours, as they probably aren't very "fair", but this would be the end to her career with this company, as whingers are not appreciated.

If you look on student placement profiles for several large accountancy companies, you'll see they all talk about the long hours and visiting different companies!

For some reason although she applied for a placement, she has been put on a graduate program, she is therefore doing what graduates do and not what a student is required on a placement.

She'll be doing the same as a graduate as this is the norm, because her placement year probably counts towards her ACA qualification.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

She should be thankfull she is getting paid for her placement, many do not or get a tiny training allowance.

I must say i think you are very rude.

Hmmm....well....I noted the comment along the lines of "This is how the next 40 years are going to be" - crikey!!! Its a heck of a lot to expect that someone would "put their own life on hold" until retirement.......

I follow the point about one has to "show commitment" - ie work every hour under the sun and not expect overtime pay for the overtime - in order to then go on and earn a good salary later - and, yes, £45,000 sounds good. So - assuming one is very money-focused and prepared to sacrifice having "a life" for some while (maybe even until retirement) - then what guarantees does one have that at the end of all that sacrifice one DOES get the well-paid job? The employer could take all that hard work/unpaid overtime and then not hand over the due "reward" for this - particularly in the current economic climate and there would be no comeback for having had such a one-sided "unwritten agreement".

Of the 4 people I know working for the big accountancy firms, they all still work long cruel hours 5 years on, but they definitely got the financial reward! As for having a life, they're very much of the work hard play hard mentality, so although it's my idea of hell, they don't see it as a sacrifice - they actually love it!

So whats the point in coming on here?

Just because you are not hearing what you want it is not a excuse to be rude and patronising, it's not welcomed here.
