Know there was a thread on this, but just looked and can't locate it - so here we go again.
Any really good price drops you've seen in your neck of the woods:
To kick off, a 3-bed Victorian terrace 5mins from the station in St Albans - currently asking 199K. To compare, equivalent was asking 300K a year ago - when we looked at houses in St Albans in 2002, equivalent was 180K. So more or less back to 2002 prices already (discounting 10% to get from asking to selling price). According to ad in EA, came on at 250K originally - anyone with propertybee able to tell me when? (NB Although it calls itself a 3 bed, it's really a 2 bed, where they've put the bathroom downstairs. Still the first 2 bed city centre Victorian house asking below 200K I've spotted.)

More please!

I dare say the one for £300K was in better condition and wasn't next to a shop.
That needs some money throwing at it.:eek:0 -

Thanks for that - no, the latter one is close to the city centre, but on a main road, so far worse location. Also, that road is basically a run-downish shopping street - mainly commercial with just the odd residential, like this. Far worse location - like a flat above a shop on a main road, really.0 -

Again, on a main road, next to loads of shops (loads of kebab shops just on that stretch).
Still, a step in the right direction, pricewise.0 -
I'm not saying it's a bargain - I absolutely agree it's still really overpriced. But I would imagine there are plenty of flats in that street - was the 95K in 2000 for a house?
I first looked at St Albans in 2002 so have no knowledge of earlier prices. It does sound surprisingly cheap, though, for 2000 - friends bought in our village, which roughly tracks St Albans prices, for 175K in 2000, so I'd have expected 2000 house prices to be c. 150K?
And anyone got any non-St Albans price drops?0 -

Personally I would prefer to live in a house on a quiet main road in conservation area like that one than next to busy Camp/Hatfield Rd junction close to dodgy Camp Rd area if I had to choose between these two.All my life my mother told me the storm was coming (c) Terminator 30 -

LR figures April 08 £340,000
