Setmefree2, Crazy_lady2009 and The Pawnbroker - Thanks for your kind words, have a virtual drink on me:beer: . It's the only kind I'm going to have to February, which is harder than I thought:p .
I've been a bit slower cashing in my endowment than I'd planned:o . Have now written to mortgage lender to ask them to release the 'assignment' on the endowment, so that I can cash it in and then pay it to them. Ho hum I'll get there in the end.
On a more positive note, I've been keeping a spending diary, which has been enlightening in more ways than one. But as far as I'm conserned the best thing is that I've now got DH on side:D , re the spending diary (and OP as long as we've both got jobs!), so he's keeping me up to date on his spend too. So hopefully, at the very worst we'll know where the money goes, and a the best we'll be able to make some savings (small or large I don't mind):D .Mortgage [strike]£70,000[/strike] £1:j

We might have to significantly review our OP situation as follows.
DS8 is dyslexic. The school are doing what they can, but it's not enough and although he is bright, he is really struggling with the written work. The LEA say that as his worst result is on the 5 centile, he doesn't need a statement (which is good), so there's no more money for him (which is bad). We now have the possibility of a place with Dyslexia Action, which is one to one tutoring, specially taylored to his needs, once a week for 1.5 hours. This is great, if we can sort the travelling logistics and time out of school (as we both work), but will probably mean a significant reduction in our OPs as what we OP would cover this cost - and what cost your child's education - so it's a no brainer really.
However I am still determined to get rid of this debt, so will carry on OP, but at a significantly reduced level, once this kicks in. Plus I am currently praying that the construction industry picks up, but that's another story.Mortgage [strike]£70,000[/strike] £1:j

Sorry to hear of your dilemma, at least you have the funds to be able to do it and you did anticipate at the start of your diary you may have to pay of tution for him
DS8 - how may kids do you have?? :eek:0 -

I've got three children, maybe I've got the abbreviations wrong. I meant Dear Son aged 8. I've also got twin Daughters aged 4 (2DD4 or should it be TD4?).
I'm still going to keep on posting, because if nothing else, it's good fun and very motivating. As you can see from my signiture I've joined the Grocery Challenge, anything saved is good:D or should it be every little helps.:rotfl:Mortgage [strike]£70,000[/strike] £1:j

I thought you meant DS8 - Dear son number 8 - the 8th boy born.
I think everyone has their own way of interpreting the abbreviations :rotfl:0 -

Obviously DS aged 8 needs support now so it is important to base your plans incorporating this. I hope the tuition really does help him. I am certain that the actions you've already taken in addressing budgeting etc will all help with the new financial situation and in going forward. Best wishes.0 -

Did your LEA carry out a statutory assessment on your DS? Or are they telling you from the records the school send in that he doesn't warrant a statement?
Reason I'm asking is my DS has probs, which were acknowledged by the school, and they were keeping records but said they had to gather more information before requesting a statutory assessment. After 6 months I had had enough as he was falling further behind, he was getting assessed by various people but getting no help in class. I requested myself he have a statutory assessment by the LEA which was carried out, that was in May 08, his statement and 1-1 were in place by Oct 08, and he has greatly improved in the short space of time she has been working with him. Although I am currently under appeal as she only works with him half time! Rest of day he is back to his old tricks!
Even the headteacher has said parents requests move the LEA quicker than school requests, and a statement is nothing to fear if it gets him the help he needs to get a good education.0
