Is it worth having a second freezer

no matter how many freezers you have, its never enough.
i have 2 - an upright and a very small one thats fitted into the kitchen unit. and its just not enough. at the moment there isnt any more room for the amazing reductions that iceland have on the fresh meat each morning.
those freezers that get fitted into the kitchen units are a joke. they are far too small for anything worthwhile. my lodger has taken quite a bit of room in the freezer . he is going on the 4th jan so i may be able to stock up a bit then; at the moment he has almost the whole small freezer to himself.
but yes do get yourself another freezer. a top opening, medium size chest freezer is my big want, but no room for one.0 -
we have a fridge/freezer and a small upright freezer...but i'd like to get rid of the small upright and get a slightly bigger chest freezer-just got to figure out where to put it. We've never got enough freezer space and have 'missed out' on loads of great offers due to lack of storage!!GE 36 *MFD may 2043

Our big "coffin style" chest freezer came from a recycling store, I think OH paid £70 for it including delivery. I find chest freezers are easier to manage, I find the uprights waste more space if you're trying to pack chickens, lumps of meat etc in them, however the uprights are good if you're storing blocks of (HM) ready meals etc
We use "bags for life" in our chest freezer to keep things together and make it a bit easier to manage. The nice thing about plenty of freezer space is that there is room to have nice things like big bags of frozen berries which we didn't have room for when we were short of space.Piglet

Hi Mardatha
There are just 3 of us here with occasional stays for nephew.
We have a HUGE chest freezer outside in office and a small under worktop freezer in the kitchen. They are both full atm with bargains and I have a "saver-plug" on them both. This means that they cost hardly anything to run as it keeps them ticking over and have used this for about 3 years.
OH pops to the local supermarkets upon closing and can get some great bargains, so for us, its well worth having them both. Milk is often reduced and always seems to be organic, but these freeze well, so we never run out. The same with bread, but the best finds are the meat, fish and poultry etc.

O god I love you lot when you tell me I must/need/should get things. Only wish I'd married you all instead of a very tight RV :rotfl:
I'd like t know more about a saver plug though..0 -
Well we just have large chest freezer in kitchen which drives me mad as takes up lots space and hard to find stuff as gets buried.
we have huge fridge no freezer compartment which is rarly ever full.
We couldent live without our freezer though as to save money and be healthy
I buy lots of frozen veg
have few frozen meals on standby with chips for one lazy night a week.
I batch cook and freeze into tubs, lasagane, shepards pie, casseroles and currys ect.
we buy lots of reduced bread as bread gone up loads and thats taking up lots of space.
We try get as much reduced chilled and meat as we can in order to keep groceries down most of that is frozen.
With stuff we grew in garden some we blanched and froze.
Ideally would love an extra freezer small upright with draws as could seperate stuff so its easier to find and maybe rotate what needs to go first but got no space for it.
if you have the space and can pick up a bargain I say go for it.
Especially if you start reduced hunting as new hobby and do batchcooking.
I know some say they at home so dont but im stay at home mum and welcome the days when can get homemade ready meal out of freezer and cook.
I love cooking just some days time and energy gets in the way.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

There's only 2 of us and we've got 2 upright under the counter freezers. We do keep one of them in the shed as we've got such a small kitchen and it's not on all year round, more like 2 weeks out of every month. Sometimes it's on a bit longer like last month as we got stocked up for Christmas and New Year, with turkey and half price meat and things at the beginning of December. We were glad of it too as the bad weather meant we were stuck shopping locally for the last 3 weeks and it's hellish expensive to do that here.Having the extra freezer meant I only had to buy milk and fruit and some veg bits.
the spare one is empty now but I will fill it again with bread, rolls, and batch cooking. I'd say go for it and get another one if you can0 -
Ok. I will. AND ITS ALL YOUR FAULT. :A:D0
