"Also, I wasn't left with a lot of cash and have since had to rely on the equity from that sale to keep us all going. I earn about £1,500 a month, but that's by no means enough to feed and clothe us all, and pay the school fees."
Well she should have learnt to live within her means. As should we all.0 -
Looks to me like she's been so used to living beyond her means for so long it never occured to her that the house she 'downsized' to couldn't be run on her wages.
£8k credit card debt and a £4k overdraft???!! How does a bank let anyone build up a £4k overdraft?0 -
I dont understand why when she was downsizing that she then spent 90k on the new house, putting in swanky kitchens and the like, when she only went down 100k, doesnt make much sense does it.
Yes lives way beyond her means, swanky car, private schools etc.Pawpurrs x

I can't believe that they have printed that. Is that the norm?? I'm povety-stricken by comparison, and I thought I was reasonably well-off.
Can't afford to pay £20k in school fees, run her BMW and keep her huge house. My heart bleeds!
Downsizing to a £420,000 house! Surely she can find something cheaper. Has she never heard of "cutting your coat according to your cloth"?0 -

My overdraft facility is £8k, although at the moment I'm in credit....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
That is a woman with absolutely no grip on reality.
She says she's earning £1,500 a month, and paying £20,000 a year in school fees, which is £167 a month more than she earns. Mad....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I must admit I don't have a lot of sympathy - she's mortgage free, earns £1500 a month, pays £20k school fees, which is more than she earns.
Is spending £500 a month to ferry kids back and forward to school.
I'm sure if she took the kids out of private school, put them in local schools, sold her car (shudder to think of the insurance costs). I'm sure she would be able to manage. The kids are all old enough to understand that there is no money for school.
I suppose one thing she doesn't have to worry about is repossession - compared to some she is lucky - she does have options, very big options for cutting back.0 -
My bank forced an overdraft on me a few years back. Never used it. It's about £3k I think.0

Yes, I feel sorry for her, but as you say she appears to want a gold card lifestyle but isnt earning the money to live like that and also a bit impulsive re the purchase of the other place wasnt she?. The story ended in July - I wonder if there are any updates?0

I feel sorry for the circumstances that put her in her initial position- the death of her husband, but after that my blood begins to boil. I struggle to see how people can spend £90k on a property when all they have done is some painting, replastered & put a kitchen & bathroom in. That lot could have been done for less than £20k, probably nearer £10k.
Which one of her neighbours is called Jones'? She was certainly trying to keep up them.0
