You might find this link useful just to read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface
There are three main types of DVI, the most common is the standard digital version, DVI-D.
But there are two others, DVI-A (analogue signal only) and DVI-I (digital & analogue).
There is no way cheap way (as everyone else has said) that'd you'll get an analogue VGA signal to work with a digital based DVI-D input on the TV.
However if the input is DVI-I or DVI-A on the TV, it will work. There are cables, which I presume are identical to the one you've purchased here for example: http://www.digibuys.co.uk/VGA-to-DVI-I-Cable-Converter-Lead-24-5-2M-p-152.html
But it's misleading, it's not converting the analogue signal to digital - it expects to be plugged into an analogue accepting DVI connection, hence everything is still analogue. Not a pure digital DVI-D connection nor conversion.
First check the input on your TV, what type of DVI interface is it?
If your TV doesn't have an analogue/VGA input you might want to see if you can find a PC Card / PCMCIA laptop card which can output DVI-D from your laptop.
Else your laptop might have a S-Video output which can be connected to a TV, either via S-Video directly or an S-Video to composite video connection, but the picture won't be very usable IMO.0 -
Second that suggestion, all the laptops I have had have an S-Video output.poker_face wrote: »Have you got S-Video on your laptop?
