I have bought a 15 pin VGA cable to connect to my LCD with a DVI output, please see link

    Well

I havnt looked into this myself (yet)

But my initial thought as SOON as I read what you had bought is this ~
Youve bought a cable that is (god knows how) converting an ANALOGUE signal into a DIGITAL one:confused:

This is of course possible with electronics........but a cable? Its impossible

hmmmmmmm ~ just NOW had a quick google. It seems your cable converts to DVI ANALOGUE, which your monitor probably doesnt allow

  • any idea what i could use to display my laptop on to this tv

Depends on what your TV is and what connectors it has
  • It's probably that cable. You will not find this cable in retail stores because it is technically pointless. VGA is analogue. DVI is Digital. Now you can get an analogue version of DVI, which like VGA has 15 pins (thus 15 cores in the cable). So the fact that this cable has analogue 15 pins (VGA) at one end, and Digital 24+1 Pins (DVI-digital) at the other, without any sort of conversion hardwear, means they have bodged something together that will not work in most situations, like yours.

My advice is never buy leads off ebay. I know they are cheaper than anyone else but with good reason. People want to convert things in ways that are not usually possible, and the people who make these leads know that most people asume you can convert anything to anything, so instead of explainging to people that you cant, they make up leads that probably wont work.

    What you need is this

but having said that im not sure that will work either. It depends weather the DVI input on your tv will accept an analogue signal

    Hope that helps

Does the tv not have a normal pc VGA analogue connector?
